SB Getting an Aluminator installed!
Anyone here? I'll drop by Protree Performance a mile up the road at lunch for some pics. May not be someone on here since they didn't know you need an 8 bolt flex plate to go with that new engine...

:hmmm: Paula's SB is still in the driveway so :dunno:.. Might be Marys car. Does it have Mass plates?

RacerX

Just took a look at it, but, didn't look at the plates. It's an sc'd Aluminator and the 8 bolt flexplate came in and is installed. No pics because I have all day to take them tomorrow. I'm helping out as an extra pair of hands and eyes.

I used to race at the roundy round track in Hudson. Thanks for the memory spark. Also, raced at Star and Lee. The owner of Hudson and Star is a really nice guy.

Well, unfortunately, the owner was in the hospital for a few days with a major back injury. I was at the shop to work with his right hand man and he was a no show. No show this morning either. Not good for them. Too bad. I see some gotchas that will occur. There's a Trilogy going on top of this also. All in boxes ready for install. It'll be a sweet ride, once it's done. Whoever the owner is, he's got NH plates and likes Hayabusas! ;)

Got there and was able to ensure that the flexplate was removed from the crank and the holes drilled into the new FRPP M-6375 flexplate. There are 4 indentations in the new flexplate center bellshape that allow the new holes to be drilled and no interference on the tc nuts. 29/64ths drill bit if I remember right. PITA!!! Anyhoo, Brandy new 10.1:1 cr engine and Trilogy. Met the owner earlier today. Very nice guy!!! See if we can bring him in the fold. Here's a few pics, not the best quality, but, I was more worried about getting some of this done.

What size S/C pulley is he planning on running? When you talked to him did he say what kinda boost he is gonna push thru it.

RacerX
06-20-2011, 07:49 PM
He's running the stockers (9psi?) on it until it's been broken in then he's going to decide what to do on pulleys. I think he needs more fuel before he does more to it. Stock pump and the kb bap may not be enough since you can put a lot through this engine without worry. Hmmm, then he'll need axles... :burnout:

Well, right off the top we know the aluminator shipped is a bit over 6k and the Trilogy kit I believe is still around 6k. not sure what the install is, but, it is labor intensive obviously. Looks like the new kits still have the problem Dennis showed with boost entering the pcv system. Sweet, new kit addresses IAT issue as said before.

That was the second thing I noticed and mentioned. No cooling mod. The first was "Are those logs really staying with the engine??? Stock exhaust. Stock FP w/kb bap. no doubt on fuel. Last thing he wants is it go lean escp with a 10.1 less forgiving. I thought Trilogy came with a upgrade pump? As for cooling mod I find it suprising Lidio doesnt do any on his builds either these are both ins things. That much $ better safe then sorry.

Not only does Lidio not do them, he recommends "not" doing them. His conclusion is, "if the tune is right, you won't need the cooling mod".

I'll take his word for it, my car runs better with his tune than it did with the previous, makes more HP and waaay more torque. My tune felt "on the edge" before, a re-tune and a couple of parts, it runs better than before.

I know this guy, almost bought this one when I was shopping for my replacement. The hyabusa (however it's spelled) plates gave it away. Had my buddy look at it and he said it was very clean and well maintained. Just had a few things from being a northern car I didn't care for.

Glad he kept it and is modding the crap out of it. When we had talked I could tell he didn't really want to sell it.

He told me he had built plenty of motors, and had never had one of his come back with #'s 7 & 8 burnt up, as long as they still were using his tune, that last part may be the key.

Pull timing or add fuel. I bet it's just a bit more fuel. That in itself helps cool everything down. Pyrometer is another way to tune.

Sweet! I had to call Zman with a question. He called right back (ThanX Bro!) even though we figured it out. We had filled the IC reservoir, turned the key to power the IC pump and didn't get to add more coolant in time before it sucked in air. Couldn't seem to get the system to prime. Finally got it by clamping the incoming hose and pressurizing the system. I can't believe this kit and all the T-taps for electrical. I soldered, heat shrinked and wrapped every damn connection! Anyway!!! Nick and I fired her up at 10:30 tonight... VROOMMMM!!! :D First start! Sounds beautiful! We have a small vacuum leak because of a high idle (no, not IAC), but, minor details. Now it's cleanup, get the wipers on, find the vacuum leak and get her on the dyno (tomorrow!).

We actually carefully lined up the new flexplate to the Marauder's original, lining up the original plates holes to those areas in the circles, clamped them together with vicegrips (also had a big socket that fit perfectly in the center to help line things up), then carefully drilled the new holes.

07-07-2011, 03:23 PM
A machine shop could do that real easy and accurate. Probably $50-100.

RacerX
07-07-2011, 04:23 PM
If you're not under the gun at 10:00pm and have time to have a machine shop do it, I agree. It's not hard to get it spot on though. It's still balanced as long as all four holes are correctly positioned.

*******BTW*******
I don't think I mentioned in this thread until now that you MUST swap the stock marauder oil pan and pickup tube over to the Aluminator! If you do not, the weight of the engine will sit that pan right on the crossmember.
