Found 98 Lincoln Mark 8. The only reason for the interest is I might get the engine for free. Would the short block work?

Thanks.

Better question is: Is there anything wrong with that engine?

I don't know if anything is wrong with it. Just went to a shop and they told me they were gonna junk this customers car that had been there for three years without the man paying his bill. I'm going to fire it up today and see how it runs. It's all still together.

Check fluids before you turn her. Make sure that gas in that tank isn't three years old. Don't start it if it is. I would pull the fp fuse and turn it over a couple times to prime the oiling system first too.

A better question would be "Who is going to make this work?" If you don't already have someone to rebuild, install, trouble shoot and oversee an engine swap/repair,etc. for you why waste time asking questions about any phase of a project that you do not have the skill, knowledge or experience to ever complete. On the other hand, if you do have someone to take your project from start to completion you should direct all your questions to that person and do exactly as you are told and don't second guess their decision. Clearly this is an area that you need someone else to make all the decisions. Have a nice day!

Yeah I know. Just need to find something to play with first. Let's not get ahead of ourseleves. My car isn't pulled apart yet. ;)

Take a deep breath and slowly re-read my post. You missed my point completely. Let someone with the knowledge and experience make the decisions. Whatever you get you will not be the one installing it. You don't need something "to play with".

Dude, all I did was ask if this will work. I'm not saying: "It works? Ok let's get this installed and go racing!" No no no, you miss understood me or I wasn't clear. The place this car is at is still at a shop, they will get it fired up, not me.

I'll hear it run and make a decision, but right now I am leaning toward doing nothing. My engine runs, but isn't good to race. I am in no rush.

Just doing a little research that's all. I'd love to do the work, but I lack the skills. I don't have time for this anyway, I'd love to learn though.

The shortblock is Teksid, but the internals are all cast stuff, nothing special, although the MarkVIIIs had the thickest ring lands of all the mod motors.
IOW, you won't gain anything from it, but you could tear it down/rebuild the short block and then swap your heads on it when you are ready.
There are a couple issues with the Teksids when installing an '03-'04 lower intake for a heaton swap though...

Not looking to gain anything. Just drop something in that doesn't need piston rings or wrist pins. My engine runs strong, but has issues. It's okay for cruising, but not hot rodding.

All I want is the short block, I'll get my heads machined and use my upper intake. Or I can take the whole engine and sell the heads. Who knows. Right now I am in no rush so it's nice.

I'd rather rebuild mine or get something nice. If I can get the short block for cheap it'll probably sit as a spare engine until something really nice can go it.

I needed the money to pay off my tickets. Sucks, but that's the truth.

If you are tight for money, you could sell your Marauder and pick up a used Prius for cheap.
I hear that those Toyotas are really dependable and get great gas mileage!

Just a thought.....

What was the car in for repairs to start with?

Why don't you ask who you are going to have do the work if it will work?

As others have said, if you get the Mark 8 motor, rebuild it or rebuild your current motor with stronger parts.

The engine would be free cost, but it would involve elbow grease at the shop. The Lincoln was in service for the air suspension giving out.

The body will be for sale if I take the engine.

Anyone need a Lincoln Mark 8 shell?

The Lincon would look good on blocks in the yard. If I had the motor I could get the Cobra down off the blocks. How do ya'll turn on spelchek?

Yeah. While I am at it why I don't I start watching television and establish credit.Dom, while I understand the spirit in which you made that comment, having good credit is not something to be taken lightly. If you ever want to own a home, you will NEED credit, unless you have a couple hundred large just lying around.

Now watching TV on the other hand...total waste of time, except for looking at Mariska Hargitay. :lovies2:

I thought I was the only one that had a thing for Mariska, I don't know what it is, but there is something about her I find totally appealing

Her mom was very pretty. I saw her "death car" once, along with Bonnie and Clydes death car in St. Augustine FL around 1990.

I would expect that from Casey or Joe (diffrn't strokes, shall we say), but if you can't figure out what it is... :dunno:

I really don't think you need spellcheck if you have cars on blocks in your yard in Alabama, but, hey, that's just my opinion. :D
