As some of you know I am having an engine problem. I blew a wrist pin and fried my piston rings last summer. I might have the chance of jumping on another 4.6 DOHC out of a Lincoln Mark 8. It has 120K miles on it.

If the engine didn't have this many miles I would be really happy to put it back in and head to the race track. If this went in, I wouldn't hot rod it... I would actually wanna go back to N/A until I had more funding to build up an engine that could handle my blower.

Right now I am driving around just fine with my engine problem(s). The ticking noise isn't getting any worse and gray smoke only comes out when I give it half throttle or greater. So the engine is holding up, I am just not sure how long it will last.

I was told by a few people to drive it as is, but I don't think they understand this car sees around 20,000 miles a year. So my question is do I keep driving like this or is it worth it to throw in another engine to even just get around? If I can keep driving great, I am just not sure how much longer this engine will last. I am not driving like a madman anymore, except outta the hole at a stop sign or something, but WOT never happens anymore.

What should I do here? Throw in this engine I found and take it easy or is keeping my current engine with bad piston rings and a bad wrist pin actually going to last under normal driving conditions?

I know many of you have been there and done that. I need to know your experience and I seek your advice.

Thanks!

Unlike cheese, it won't get better with age. Carry extra oil in the trunk, because you're going to go thru alot if wristpins and rings are shot. When all that unburned oil clogs up your cats and mufflers, have a fire extinguisher ready. All of that is worst case scenario, of course. Hell run it, you only live once.

IMO it would be wise to build up the engine from the Lincoln for your blower being it's a Teksid block. What about pulling the blower off and just doing a quick rebuild on that one cylinder (provided no cylinder scaring) until you can build the blower block.

I think you guys are forgetting that my piston rings are probably fried. So if the engine comes apart, it all has to be rebuilt.

Me? Take the Lincoln motor and build it. Drop it in and go fast!

I'd rebuild using the teksid block with stronger internals prior to winter of this year and put the supercharger on hold for next spring-summer of 2012. If you have credit use it and pay it off! I learned a long time ago that if you run the car hard you gotta maintain it, if you don't have money readily available don't take it for granted! Just my suggestion...

You are running on borrowed time either way. You have 2 options.

1- Run as is and pray:)

2- Drop in the the 120K mile engine out of the Lincoln.

Tuff call here??

I would go with #2 and no blower.

Cool your jets young man! :)

Hey now I like those cars. When I crashed the Marauder in 2005 I was actually looking at WSX STI's. I later decided to fix my car.

Got a text from Zack tonight... why does he always have to be right about these things? :alone:

Are you looking to swap your heads on to the Mark short block, or are you dropping in the Mark long block?

You would have to put the marauder heads front cover on the mark block and alot of other things. Should have kept the cobra block.

I had to get all the tickets off the car. That's why the Cobra short block was sold.

How on earth could you get that many parking tickets?

Never mind, I can only imagine.... ;)

After 10 fine determinations of parking liability, the city will send certification to the Secretary of State that you are eligible for driver's license suspension.

I'm surpise he haven't had the car booted after 2 fines. They give you 21 days to pay. I'm sure he knew this before his GF purchased the block for him.

How about not parking in a manner that gets you a citation:confused:? Or paying for the tickets as you get them, instead of letting them and the fines build up to the point of having to do something desperate.

Never mind, I know the answer........ blame the police for your indiscretions:shake:, yep, that's it, much easier that way.

But to answer your question, do you really want to put a 120k mile motor in your car, temporarily? You may as well just drive the Mark VIII and park the MM till you get the $$$$ together for a suitable replacement.

That would be great, but the Mark 8 needs over $2,000 with of repairs. That's why it's been sitting.

As far as tickets are concerned you don't know the half of it and act as of every police offer is always correct. Wow.

Off topic somewhat but you did throw it out there:)

I am sure the Police are targeting you for an "easy" mark. When I get parking tickets I always take pictures aof the vehicle parked and street signs. I send them in and every parking ticket in the last 5 years has been dismissed:)

Sounds like a :fish: story:confused:

Oh Jim Daddy, I have been there and done that too brother. I've been to court to fight and have won to get outta tickets. The last four I couldn't do anything about, but pay. The reason is I wasn't aware of them until after the due date for an appear. Gotta love when they mail you tickets just in time so you cannot fight them.

I would still pass on a 120k motor.

OT.. These are parking tickets correct? If so the people in your area are taking tickets off your car. The notices you are getting are the hearing date for you to come in person to contest. In the future write down the 10 digit ticket number, call the department of revenue and ask when is the hearing date for said ticket, they'll tell you over the phone.

I am going to pass on the engine now.

My neighbor who is a car guy is finally selling off his red mark 8. Besides 130,000 miles and a new front air suspension leak, this car is MINT. Babied since day one, always garaged, till last year. $4000. I am trying to hold back purchasing myself.

Whatever you do, save the original block. It has the numbers that match the VIN of your car. The new motor won't. If you ever decide to sell it in a collector's market (assuming one materializes) that'll be important.

The original block is long gone and I'm never going to sell. Even if it had the original engine, the car isn't worth anything. 182K, non matching numbers, nine year old Mercury.... yup it's no collector car, it's a drivers car. :burnout:

Will it look worse than my piston?? Engine was running when I pulled it, and NO I did not remove the rings they were totally gone.

http://i348.photobucket.com/albums/q329/folingo/SL372353.jpg

Rings were fried but drove it with misfiring and crapping up the plug. But it did not smoke all that much. After a few thousand miles it smoked like a pig and started rapping/knocking. That is probably when the large hunks blew off the piston

That is a sweet car and the price isn't too shabby. What's the color of the interior? I will confess to not being a big fan of red on a car, no that is not a DTR slam.
