Hi,

My driver seat is starting to rip on the far back left corner. As I hear there are no more seat uphoulstery left for these cars, are there car upholstery places that can fix or redo these for the bottom cushion?

Any good car upholstery shop should be able do it; might cost a bit. Also try ebay...I've seen seat sets there as well.

I had the same rip, in the same location. I bought a new driver's side lower seat cover from Tasca last month. Picked up a new cushion as well. Now I just have to find someone to install it. At the time, there were only 3 covers left....so, subtract mine and now there's two. Good luck.

What color is the # 3W3Z5464417AAG?

I recall reading here about a year ago that there is a particular area of the seat that is prone to wear due to something underneath? One person added additional cushioning there as a temporary fix. Is this that spot?

I haven't seen anything on this ^^^^^ for years. However, back in 2004-2005 timeframe (give or take a year), there were some complaints of something poking up through the seat cover and ripping the upholstery and "irritating" the driver. Think it was right cheek related. Maybe left. I forget. BigDogJim may have had this particular problem. He also had a problem with seat clearance and removed the bump stops to get an extra 1-1.5 inches of travel.

Here's the earliest thread that I could find on the "seat spring" issue that dates to January 2005. It may have only affected early builds. >>>>>> http://www.mercurymarauder.net/forums/showthread.php?t=15227&highlight=poking

Surprised that CBT hasn't chimed in on a "Seat Ripping" thread. Bet he has ripped some good ones. :o

Bought mine last year and it had a hole in the same spot. The dealer fixed it at no charge to me! It is a metel piece under the upholstery. They had an outside guy that did their work. He put extra padding in and replaced the section of leather. Looks good. If you can't get it fixed bring it to my house AND PUT'ER ON BLOCK IN MY YARD!:D

Yes I did move the seat back but to date (kock on wood) I have no rip's or tears:)

I thought you mentioned something about getting poked in the azz. Must have been something else. :P Shot Out.

Did I miss a pic, not of an azz but of the rip. I'd like to know exactly where the rip is so please post pic if possible. Thanks

Brian, where would you recommend getting this fixed? Is there a place in Tracy?

This guy has been around a very long time. I had him do my headliner/sun visor for my 85 GMC Jimmy back in the day (90s) and looked OEM new!

Thanks Brian. My brother would like to get some seats done on his 88 Grand Marquis as well. And my Crown Vic needs some repair also. Also, my sister was asking about her VW Beetle seats which are shot to heck. I'll definately consider this place.

I have 100,000 miles on my car and have had very few people sitting on the passenger front side.

My driver's side is definitely worn because I haven't been successful in levitating to eliminate wear.

If I buy a new bottom and rear part of the driver's seat will it match with the other front flint colored seat pretty well?

Brian, I went to Tri-Valley Auto Interiors and I must say I was disappointed. My brother has been wanting to upgrade his interior on his old Grand Marquis to vinyl or leather. So we figured we would try this guy first with his car. We even had some junkyard vinyl front seats and back seats to drop off that were of the color andOEM style we wanted redone. Our plan was to leave them there, pick them up, and then install them. If quality was good, then I'd trust the Marauder there. Well, we pulled the seats out and first the guy asks whats wrong with the junkyard vinyl seats we picked up. What? Is he kidding? Don't you see the sun damage spots and occassional rips and holes? We did pick a decent set we found at the junkyard to be sure, but not nice and new looking. We were looking to have these seats repaired or reuphoulstered near OEM and were prepared to pay a pretty penny. Maybe the guy was trying to be nice and save us some money, but he recommended we call another guy who has a mobile unit who "sprays" seats and fixes holes. Sprays? Will it look new? Sounds kind of shoddy to me. I don't want to pay to fix up some junkyard seats and then they don't last or don't look nice?

What is this "respraying" technique? Do they do a good job? I'm sure they can probably fix holes and rips, but does the seat look nice and new?

It's just like anything else. It all depends on how much the original seats appearance have changed from age and exposure.

The NOS cover should have been sitting in a warehouse and not exposed to the same sunlight, etc as the original in your car.
