Tonight I installed my Dirty Dog valve body plate and now my transmission is slipping. My car has 62k and when I dropped the pan I found the lollipop so my transmission has never been serviced. I was running a Zack tune and the transmission operated perfectly. It would bark the tires all day long on WOT 1st to 2nd shifts. I installed the plate and didn’t touch the accumulator springs. I re-filled with about 8qts and went for a very short and gingerly drive and re-checked the fluid level. The first thing I noticed was that it took longer for the transmission to engage into reverse and from reverse to drive. Part throttle 1st to 2nd shifts definitely Firmer. Can’t imagine taking the accumulators spring outs. I check the dip stick and no fluid so I add 1 qrt and repeat. Same results. Add another quart and this puts me on the dip stick. I drive around some more nothing but light throttle until I’m satisfied I’ve got the level correct. Once I feel good about the level I start driving progressively more aggressive. At ¾ throttle it will bark the tires from 1st to 2nd. I do a WOT throttle run and at about 4000 rpms it starts slipping. I almost puked . What did I screw up?

First I've heard of Dirty Dog... Most people here do the J-mod. Maybe you should switch back to the stocker, or do the J-mod on the stocker then switch back?

Just taking a guess..... if your trans is a 4r75w and you used a valve body for a 4r70w, that could potentially be an issue. Some one who knows transmissions more than I should probably verify that first though.

But from looking at their site, it appears that they don't sell a kit for the later model trans., and I don't think that they are interchangeable without some other changes.

Agreed.
I'm running the dirty dog kit in my car and have had no issues for the last 5 years. Call Allan and see what he says. He's very knowledgeable and will have a answer for you.

Do you still have the zack tune on? Lower the line pressure for 1-2 2-3 shifts by 15+ and see if there's a difference.

I'll call Alan and see what he says great guy. When I compared plates they looked the same just bigger holes on the new one. I've taken the pressure down to -15 percent and haven't really noticed any change in firmness. Looks like I get another fluid shower. I hate nagetiave progress. Thanks for all the help.

If the fluid has never been changed when you drained the old fluid the sludge became dislodged which now results in slippage.

I know this from a previous Ford product.

Interested to hear how it works out....hope for the better. Have a DD kit myself sans the plate (Jmod'd my stocker and used everything else in a package Alan set up for me including gaskets, springs and solenoids, etc.). Alan will point you in the right direction.

I found my Lollipop and a nice, mushy pile of sludge on the magnet when I had my stuff apart...probably spent an hour cleaning the pan, the vb, myself before putting it all back together and love the results. I know it rook me a little putting around before pressures built up and fluid level got steady to realize the full result...then drove 5 hours to Carlisle with no hassles. Hoping for a positive result on your end.

Best,
Jonathan

I'm happy to report all is well. I called Alan and explainEd what it was doing and asked if he had any insight into what I might have screwed up. He said the only other time he had seen anything like that happen before was because of a gasket being folded in on itself causing a leak in the circuit.

So I took at all apart to see if I could find something wrong. Went much faster the second time.

When i dropped the valve body the first thing noticed was that little filter thing was missing the nipple:eek: Luckily I found it jamed in the pressure regulator valve.

When I got the separator kit in the mail the first thing I did was see if the holes that were enlarged matched the ones in the instruction for the jmod. They did so when I was doing this the first time it never crossed my mind to to compare the plate I got in the kit to the plate I took of my valve body. Needless to say I did the second time. Imeditly I notice the one in the kit had a pretty good dimplel in it. Almost like someone hit it with a punch. My orig one didn't have anything like it and it would have
made it almost impossible to seal up flush.

So I drilled the holes in the org plate and put in all back together and life is good. To be honest the 1-2 shift is on the verge of being to firm. I didn't touch the springs and have my zach tune turned down all the way and it will still bark the tires 3/4 throttle. I guess that's a good problem.

Thanks for everybody input.
