The rain held off today Sat. 6/24/11 for Gilboy Ford/Lehigh Valley PA Region Shelby American Automobile Club to hold their annual Ford Powered+ show in the Allentown suburbs of PA. Show was open to all American cars but mostly all Ford's and Shelby's, couple of Chevy's snuck in and no Mopar.
Lot's of Mustangs of all different years and varieties. More "new" than old but the old 'stangs were represented well.
One guy had an original '65 Shelby S/C 427-8? Cobra. Yes it was real, I saw the hammer marks on the inside of the front fenders. He said it was 1 of 7 built and he said it is one of 4 known to still exist. Insured through Lloyd's of London, nuff said. I asked him where his trailer was and he said for what it's insured for it's worth driving. When we left the show he followed me out and hung behind me for awhile. When we reached a clear two lane opening on the highway I moved over and all I can say is Mother of God:eek: I have never seen any car accelerate so fast outside of like a NHRA Funny car. 70 to God knows how fast he got it going before he needed to slow(about 3/4 of a mile open space). I just laughed. It must be an 7-8 second car at the track. Joe Walsh eat yur heart out:P. The guy said he might bring it to the Shelby show in October at the car museum in Hershey (the day after our MM show)
.
So they had 15 awards (plaques) for Best People's Choice picked by the crowd. I thought I might have a chance at one of those as I had the only MM and a lot of people asked about it. I saw people writing my number a lot so I was thinking I had a chance. Alas all 15 were called and no MM. I don't think most people know what our cars are, if I heard it's a cop car once I heard it 50 times.:shake:.
The show had about 20 classes and 1/2 of those were the Mustang/Shelby breakdowns. The other 1/2 or so were Best Chevy and a 50's Nomad wagon won that. Best Mopar didn't show up. There were a few odd ball awards like most likely to get a ticket, went to a "new" Mustang. Best car to go to a drive-in(big back seat) I thought I had a chance at that. It went to a '50 Ford Deluxe. Best in Show went to a 50's Crown Victoria( It was very nice. You be happy to note(at least I hope so)
"Best Ford Muscle" went to 2003 Mercury Marauder owned by yours truly:banana2::banana2:
Paula wants to take a pic so pics will follow..
