Doing the Jmod this week, just a couple questions. I noticed the instructions are for a 4R70W trans and I have an 04 with the 75W, so can the same instructions still be used? And also, I wasn't planning on flushing the TC when I did it, so if I put 9 quarts of Mobil1 synthetic in will there be an issue mixing it with the other 3 quarts of whatever has been in there? Best to just flush it all and replace it all?

The main control mod is the same for the 4r70 & 4r75. I wouldn't worry about flushing cooler unless you have had a trans failure. Also I would personally use regular mercon 5 but to each there own.

Everything is the same. I had the same questions as well.

You don't flush the TC, just rotate the crank until you can see the drain bolt on the bottom of the TC through the dust cover grommet on the front the transmission case. This is only if you want to drain the TC. When you pull the trans pan and valve body you're looking at about 5 quarts of fluid I believe. Add another few more quarts if you drain the TC so 8-9 quarts maybe? I think I ended up putting 8 in mine, I also have a deep trans pan and 2nd trans cooler.

I'd also you regular mercon V. I've been using Castrol kind since I did my trans pan oh about 100k miles ago. lol

There is no drain bolt on these torque converters when you remove the main control you remove the tcc drain back valve in essence flushing the torque converter

As others have said, follow the directions for 4R70W and use Mercon V.

When you remove the pan, you lose roughly 4-5 quarts. When you remove the valve body, you lose roughly 4-5 more quarts, for a total of roughly 9 quarts.

Thanks guys. Doing it at the crack of dawn. Got the stuff and 8 qts of casterol ATF, so hopefully that'll do it.

Got the stuff and 8 qts of casterol ATF I would not use anything but Mercon-V. If it just says ATF, I would return it and get the proper stuff.

Is any brand of Mercon V better than another, I usually use Mobil 1 in everything, but don't see any Mercon V by them, just regular ATF. I see Castrol, Valvoline, Advance Auto, & Motorcraft all make Mercon V...any better than another?

Jmod done. Car took all 8 quarts of ATF, filled it right up to the line on the dipstick. No problems when I took it for a spin, love it. Thanks for all the help.

What have you done ? you're about to damage the transmission listen to A_D_A_M mang and go to return them and change for Mercon V no matter the brand the important is that in defect of the Motorcraft Mercon V look for Valvoline,Castrol,Pennzoil, they're good tranny oils I have use the first two mentioned.

capt512, as long as it's clearly labelled Mercon V, it's good stuff. Brand doesn't matter. I've used Motorcraft, Castrol and Valvoline with equal success.

Make sure you're checking the dipstick when the transmission is it warmed up/hot and has been sitting in park for 5-15 mins. After filling (if needed) let sit for another 7-10 mins to ensure the fluid levels out for a proper reading.

I did, sits perfectly at the line. Very happy with the results.
