Just got my Massachusetts registration renewal for next year...under "Make" it says MERC and under "Model Name" is says GRANMA...well, it IS my WIFE'S car... D'OH!

Had the same shop that did my pinstriping install a set of VentVisors while they were at it...(I know, I could have done it myself but this guy has done a thousand of them and it only took him a few minutes more)
Besides the functionality, they actually seem to lower the roofline, almost a "chopped" look...it's subtle, but rather nice...I have them on my work truck too, and I highly recommend them...

My registration say MERC 4DRSD I guess it means 4 door sedan. I'm getting Grand Marquis insurance rates....

Everything I have, including insurance cards, says Marauder. The only piece of paper I have that relates to GM, is the window sticker.

Mine is ALL MM too... Under my insurance, I'm a "Performance H" whatever the hell that means... I guess my co actually went to the trouble to figure out why those few numbers in the vin were a tad off from a GM. Sucks to be me...

I bought the $75.00 vent visors (or "wind deflectors") from Ford and installed them myself. (See my sig picture). A pretty hefty sum of money for 4 pieces of light weight plastic. I still can't decide if I am completely happy with the appearance; but they are definitely nice to have on a rainy day when you just want a little fresh air in the car and you don't want to run the a.c..

Your vent visors look great, though I wasn't sure what a "vent visor" was until I saw your pic, thanks. I know them as "wind deflectors," and I have added them to a number of my cars since '68, the year Chevrolet introduced "Astro ventilation," which was also the year the vent wiindow died...forever. (Actually I think this was more a comparasion of costs; cost of triangular glass panels that could be shaped to changing roof designs, and the necessary hardware, over ventilation values in a passenger compartment, but I digress with my opinion.)

Vent visors work well in keeping air flowing through the passenger compartment, and more so when that air is accompanied by rain or snow. I'm a smoker, and "cracking" a window is the only way I can keep my passenger compartment from telling on me. I may add a set to my MM, now that I know what they will look like.

Don't know your circumstances, but what I experienced with my insurance guy was a suprise to me too. I was prepared to pay a "surcharge" on my policy because I'm from the days when insuring high performance cars meant more liability to the insurance company. however, I wanted this ***** so bad, I said "so what."

In reality, my guy found my car in his software database, and I am sure State Farm knows exactly what they are insuring at an unreasonably low premium. At first, I stepped back, thinking a premium scam was unfolding before me. Ya know the type, the "rope me in, hike it later" thingy.

Once I backed up, my guy pushed his home office to fess up, and they confirmed my rate. Now I'm told that since I'm a single guy and can drive only one of my cars at a time, their logic fit a bit better. However, the SF home office also asked my agent to confirm my DOB, and he did. Seems my "over 50" status meant low liability to them, like I wasn't gonna race it or anything...yeah, okay.

The final decision here, was left up to their computer software and...

Geeze...computers...go figure...."HAL, open the door HAL"

Anyway, you may have been stuck with higher rates because of your age, and/or, your previous driving record, but not because it's an MM.

Hope this helps, but know it won't...sorry.

I checked with the insurance company before I went shopping back in September. The agent told me the MM had already been assigned a rate code(I pulled a vin # out of an ad). When I inquired about the increase from the '01 F-150 4X4 to the '03 MM I was told $127 more. Small price to pay for a vehicle I really wanted! The day I picked up the MM I was at a local town harvest festival and came across a guy who works for an insurance company that offer to write me a policy on my other pick up ('87 F-150 4X4) for about $500 less thany my main regular insurance company that I have been with for over 33 years! The reason was age of teh truck and miles driven, less than 5000 per year! Pays to shop.

For me with my Impala SS, my registration and insurance, both say CAPRICE CLASSIC/IMPSDN or something. Essentially the Impala SS is really a Caprice Classic with the WX3 option meaning Impala SS. So my insurance rates have always been under Caprice I assume.

In two recent accidents (neither, my fault), I made sure the adjuster noted that the car is an Impala SS and not a Caprice. Obviously part prices and to some extent, visuals are going to differ.

I use Progressive, been with them since '95.
