Hey guys. Okay, I'll get right into it. About a month ago, my marauder stocking knocking for a couple of seconds when the air conditioner was turned on. Being my daily driver, I could not really afford to send it off to the mechanic immediately. About two weeks ago, it started knocking a little more softly for about two to three seconds every couple of minutes even though I have not been using air conditioning. Now, she seems to keep overheating when at stop and go traffic. I don't feel it is a low coolant issue because the coolant does not appear low and when I am on the highway it seems to stay cool. I feel it is something with a radiator fan possibly. I have no idea if these issues could be related or how so. I need answers quick before this progresses. Feel free to ask more questions if details are needed. I just got done with a 13 hour work day and am a little out of it.

Chck the fan blades. May have a broken one.

Sounds right, the fan engages with the air on to cool the condenser at low speeds.

You said you checked the coolant. How? Degas bottle? You have to take out the plug in the crossover tube and check there. See threads on burping coolant system. If your gauge hits the red, your hitting extreme temps and you will destroy your engine. The temp gauge doesn't go into the red until you hit about 230 degrees. There's air in the system and the water pump will not move coolant.

+1 on burping the system. That, along with checking the fan blades would be a good place to start.

You REALLY need to narrow down the source of the "knocking" sound ASAP. Start the car and let it idle with the A/C on so the radiator fan comes on. If it isn't something benign like the fan or the A/C compressor, you may have much more serious issue and continuing to drive it can make it much worse.

Low coolant can cause the knocking too. Engine overheating, lug the engine a bit (turn on a/c) and it'll start pinging. I bet it's all related. ;)

I believe I have pin-pointed the location to the fan directly in front of the block. It starts spinning, knocks, and then stops spinning, which would indicate why when I am on the highway it remains cool. I am essentially air cooling it. I assume that is the radiator fan, seems like an easy fix. Any more suggestions fellas. Oh and by the way, I have been through the burping problem four times, and every time it was something else, so I am using that as a last resort, I can afford to buy gallons and gallons of coolant, haha.

Till you get a price on that fan assembly... $$$$$$, which is why I have a couple of spares......

I meant to say can'T afford to buy gallons and gallons. From what ive priced, I'll be looking at 150. Is this a common problem, or something that just happened?

Fairly common, enough so, that we have them changed out on our marked cars on a schedule, presumably before they fail. I have procured a pair of working spares for me, if you need one, I can hook you up, no guarantee on the amount of time it will run, but, for the low price of shipping, it can be yours. It would be till Monday till I could ship though.
