I missed out on the group purchase, but the posts from all of you lucky guys that bought the Super Chips Microtuner for dirt cheap sounded pretty good.

If anyone is kinda thinking about buying one - DO IT. Contact Wes at Innovative Intercepters - he's a great guy and went out of his way to get it to me by today so I could play with it over the weekend.

Part throttle downshifts are PERFECT. That was the main thing that was really driving my nuts about my MM. To get it to downshift to a decent gear you had to floor it, so my speed choice was always slug or WOT - do I want 2000rpm or 5500rpm? No in-between. Its not really fun or practical to drive around town like that.

The SCMT will pick the perfect gear at 1/2 or 3/4 throttle. At 60MPH it'll pop to about 3500rpm and be right in the power band. (And - its a nice, authoritative downshift). THEN - you can decide if you want to floor it and wind it out to redline, or just pick up 20MPH and upshift back. It makes a huge difference in the drivability of the car, being able to take advantage of the torque curve of the motor.

I set the 1-2, 2-3 upshifts to firm, but it could be a lot firmer IMHO. Its better than stock, but it won't snap your neck. But I'm so happy with the downshifting that I can live with just a minor upshift improvement.

Question for you guys that already have one of these:

I picked MAX for the 1-2, 2-3 upshift firmness, but choose the superchips default for 3-4. The 3-4 shift almost seems more firm. Would I get a harder upshifts by selecting the Superchips option for 1-2, 2-3 instead of MAX?

Hmmm - with a set of 4.10 gears I may not need to buy a new Hemi 300C after all.......

It has been my experience that the superchips settings are the best if you have not changed your gears. If you have changed your gears you need to customize the shift rpm settings.

It was my impression that the default firmness setting were the same as the max selection. I am running the default program and really like the improvements to how the car shifts.

That's what I was wondering - if the default firmness was more firm or less than than max. I assumed it wouldn't be more than max ( cause that wouldn't make sense).

Maybe I'll just change it and see if I notice a difference.

when i 1st got it, i tried all the max settings for rpm and shift firmness. car felt dead after 6200 rpms and was just holding each gear til 6500 rpms. i then put all the superchips settings in (which is the one after the max setting) and the car shifts at 6200 rpms and shift speed and firmness are great (fast and hard). I think the superchips settings are the best for stock or slightly modded like cat back and intake mods.

BTW, with the tuner i can lay 1 car length (15 ft approx.) of rubber without holding the brake from a dead stop. not sure if it is the tuner or break in miles of 10k+ mi.

So can I find discounts anywhere?! I've looked at Innovative...you know having a Grand Marquis and all. I can't decide if I want the car chipped, or if I want a Valentine V1. The car downshifts extremely well...as long as it's below 50º. Once it starts getting above that, the car won't down shift and becomes 5 or 6 seconds slower, more about 70º...picking up speed from between 30 to 55 miles per hour. Those are all kind of rough estimates, but from a seat position. It feels like molasses sometimes, and 2 ton mad beast at others. I just want a mad beast! But then having a mad beast, I'm going to get caught SOMEday, even thought I've done very well at not getting caught.

And one more "?". Does he send the chip to you, or do you send the EEC to him?

I noticed exactly the same behavior. I have run the MAX settings for about a month but I am about to change them back to the Superchips default settings that I tried initially.

I got my tuner from Wes at Innovative and highly recommend him. I am sure he will get you the best deal he can.

The SCMT simply plugs into the service port to program your PCM. No need to send anyone anything. It is really easy to use. I can't say how much of an improvement you will get with the GM but I will bet you will notice it :)
