Recently I installed the clutch packs and tighter F-150 spring from Ford Racing (same as 03/04 Cobra's) into the merc since mine was getting soft and I was trying to diagnose a rear end noise.
Review after a few weeks is A+. I can torque the damn wheels with the rear in the air without the parking break on. Beautiful!!
Alot better grip coming out of a corner on power too.
If your MM has 70k+ Strongly consider doing this. It'll take ya about a day.

That's nice to hear! I'll be doing that to my 31 spline lsd that still needs to go in with axles...

I toasted my clutches back in probably '06 at 34,000 miles and put these in minus the spring. 5 years later and now 81,000 miles, 37,000 S/C even, and all is still perfect! I did Guspech's car last year as well and he's quite happy to say the least. Not sure if they gave him the wrong spring, but that one as well as mine would never had fit no matter how much you bent it. I left that one stock as well.

The Key to that kit is the spring itself. You have to take the ring gear off to get it in. If you reuse the stock one it won't apply enough pressure to take full advantage.
What you do is clamp it with large vice grips. Then hammer the spring down through the vice grips into the spider gears. Works everytime.

Is this the same spring that comes on the cobra diff?

Hmmmmm... Will you also do mine, when I'm ready?

I purchased a new set of the Cobra carbon fiber clutches from ctrlraven and installed them about one month ago. I had 78K and noticed I was spinning the unloaded wheel a lot. I run several Auto-X events each year and I'm getting much better traction accelerating off the corners. I had help installing them from a friend that works as a mechanic for a local Ford dealer.

I put these in the 1st weekend after I ran the car at the track after going S/C. 1st pass cooked the stock clutches.
I had to rig up a clamp type tool, remove the ring gear and beat it in with a BFH.
After doing a 31 spline axle upgrade on a friend's Mustang a few month's later we noticed that there's more room for a larger spring in the 31 spline carrier and the big spring doesn't need to be beat in. In summary, the spring in the kit is for a 31 spline carrier, it can, however, fit in a 28 spline carrier if one is persistant enough with great results.

So 47,000 mostly S/C miles of tire smoking fun, with DR's at the track as well isn't enough proof that the bigger spring is a complete waste of time? It will do NOTHING more for you than the stocker in a 28 spline housing. How many miles do you think clutches should last when driven hard? Mine could go out any day and I would feel they served above and beyond.
Besides, what spring is made that allows you to bend it, even ever so slightly, and will retain 100% of it's strength?

FWIW, the spring that came in that kit broke in the diff for me after a few weeks of use. I have pictures, and in fact that s=spring still. We put the stock spring back in and everything worked like a charm.

Yes.
03/04 Carbon clutch kits and their FMS diffs have the F-150 spring.
