Well fellas, my electrical system finally crapped out. My system was to big for my alternator and battery. I cant turn my head unit on or amp on anymore without my volts dropping below ten and all my electrical components start to flash. Its just sucking it dry. Even at a cruise it drops to dangerous levels. I guess my 2600 watt amp and 2 fifteens were to much for our tiny alternators. So im in the market for a 250 amp alternator and optima battery guys. :) Just wanted to let you guys know!

yessir the dbelectrical 250 one. Thats the one i was planning on getting. And if anybody knows, Whats the difference between a yellow top and a red top optima battery? Like which one is better?

The yellow is intended for heavy accessory usage (see also: stereo) and the red for "regular" usage. http://www.optimabatteries.com/optima_products/yellowtop/index.php

BUT - the stock alternator should have been beefy enough to keep up with what you had. I ran ~2500 watts for years on a 120 amp alternator in my Grand Marquis with a pair of 17" DVC's. Although I also had an Optima in the trunk, maybe that's what's missing.

Were you running any caps in the trunk?

I had an Optima battery (red top) that lasted over 4 years... not bad for a 3 year warrantied battery.

Here is my post on the battery I decided to upgrade to.

The price is a little more than an Optima red top or yellow top.

Got a 250amp alternator from DB Electrical.

Been running fine for over a year.

I've always wondered why people would have a 200-watt stereo in their home, but felt they needed two THOUSAND watts in their friggen car.... :shake:

Good question. In a smaller car I agree. In the Panthers it takes a LOT of power to get the noise from the trunk through the gas tank and back seat to where you can really hear it :D

I haven't had the heart yet to "deverginize" my Marauder with my stereo yet. It's a 10+ hour install where the seats and carpets all come up and the factory stereo is "good enough" for me. Plus, after a few years, the bass tends to make the car a lot more rattly and that's not something I want to do to a rare car...

Joe, i dont haven any extra batteries in the trunk. And i deadened my car with peel and seal, so i dont have nearly as much rattle. For everybody who thinks having a loud system is ridiculous, its like upgrading a motor. I am addicted to bass and making systems loud. Other people are addicted to speed and gaining more horsepower. It somewhat similar.
