View Full Version : Dynotec driveshaft question

Sooo.... Here I am this morning waxing my car(which took about 4hrs.+-). As soon as I finish it's about to start raining.. So I get the heavy car cover and cover it up. During this process I noticed my driveshaft has a dynotech sticker on it. I seen one the venders that sells them. My question is are they better than the aluminum driveshafts found in the p71's? There wasn't any real good description if it was better than stock.

I bought a dynotech shaft for my car when I got 4.10s installed. Consequently, after the install I don't think I ever even came close to a speed where I'd need it. Wish I never wasted that $500-$600...

They are whey better than the factory aluminum, they use to make them 3.5" mmc, now they make them 4".

Not wasted, good insurance. Your spinning that driveshaft faster at a lower speed. It isolates a lot of driveline vibration as well.

I had the factory driveshaft up so far above the critical speeds on many occasions and not a single issue ever. I've seen the math involved in critical speed calculations, and I never hit it with the dynotech, not even close. I know that others have blown rear-ends and snapped shafts right at or even right below those speeds, but I personally believe those are exceptions rather than the rule.
Either way, it's in the past, I don't own the car any more, and the OP didn't actually have to lay out cash for his, so the better response for me to give is "you are definitely not worse off if that's what you are worried about."

there is no such thing as blowing a rearend because the driveshaft is not high speed balanced. the first thing that goes is the transmission tailshaft, i cracked one on my first MM doing over 120mph with the stock driveshaft.
i was lucky it didnt desintegrate and dig into the highway at those speeds.
