View Full Version : Thinking of Trading the MM in....

Well Ladies and Gents, The Wife and I are debating on trading my Marauder in on a 2010 Taurus SEL. We both love the Marauder but we're both in agreeance that it may be time to part with her. The Dealership is offering to give 6900 trade in value. Not sure what to do at this point. I think it would have been easier if I hadn't detailed her before taking her up to the dealership. Now I keep looking at the Marauder and thinking "well she's still a good car..."

How many miles on your MM?

Dont let the dealer steal it for $6900 and buy a Taurus SHO so you will still be half as cool as having your marauder

113000 miles.

The Taurus is ugly and the very second you consider getting rid of your Marauder is the time it should be under new ownership for someone that will appreciate the car.

NADA and KBB put it at 7000 to 6900 for trade in value. She's by no means in rough shape but she is a daily driver and could use a little TLC.

They want me to put the factory intake back on and remove the Rhienhart tune before trade in too.

lol, get bent money-bags.

To the OP, I got $6,500 for mine with 114K on the clock, moderate modification and a pretty sad paint job with a malfunctioning A/C blend door. Take that into consideration whichever way you like.

I will say that despite the fantastic deal I made when I sold mine, I regularly miss my MM (and have even had dreams of driving it again, literally.)

Ouch. I love the car but the wife and I both are getting tired of the constant costy repairs. It seems like everytime I get something fixed on it there is something else broken on it.

There's only so many things on a car that can break. And if you've kept up with your basic maintenance, 113k should be nothing for the engine/trans on a Marauder.

For $6900, I would keep it.

Yes this coming from the man who said "I look forward to another 100,000 miles with this car." and then sells it shortly after.

Sounds like you are a victim of mechanic. Do what you can yourself. Mine is at 183K and the only problems I have had were from me pushing the car too much, not Ford parts breaking on their own. The times I actually needed work I stayed and watched everything, the people hated that, but if they have nothing to hide then there shouldn't be an issue. Zack is the only one I'll walk away from, soon as he works on a car he doesn't wanna see it back.

Sorry to hear about the issues, but if I had the ability I would take it to a trusted member or ex-member here and never have to worry about it again.

Hmm, the books put my 04 at $10,500 for trade in. 79,400 miles. At least your wife is in agreement with you. I have the beginnings of WW3 here for even mentioning it. :( Have you tried selling it yourself? The books here said $12.5 for a private sale, but the books also have no clue how rare these cars are.

Yes this coming from the man who said "I look forward to another 100,000 miles with this car." and then sells it shortly after.

Cause it's always economically feasible for everyone to keep a high-mileage car.

As it so happens, the monthly "payments" I was making trying to keep the MM roadworthy were more than my actual car payments on the Camaro. Not only that, but when it is actually payed off, I will have significantly less miles on it than the MM had.

But go on ahead, keep bragging about how running your car into the ground time after time is dedication that should be admired...

I am a patient man, but less patient when a person is asking about selling their MM, or trading, and see the bickering that just trashes their thread.

Keep it on topic, or don't type.

I realize they'll turn around and sell it for more than they'll give me for it. When w traded the wifes DTR in we had to haggle all day just to get above water on it. We go back tomorrow for the wife to test drive it and then I'm going to haggle a bit more for the trade in.

If your set on getting another car try selling it here first you might get a little more. Dealerships always low ball ya. Another thing they have a habit on doing is they give you a trade in price with the tax savings included so if you do trade her in make sure the tax savings isn't included in the trade in price . Always check your final invoice before you buy every detail.

Good luck whatever you decide Hack.. You are always welcome to any future STL gatherings Best of luck! I can agree though with the constant repairs on these cars it amazes me how they have so many small issues considering how long the Panther platform has been built for (almost all the little mech items that break or fail are not MM specific).

Hey all that's really not a bad price from dealer as I mentioned in other posts 2003 Mauraders have been selling in the $6,000 6,500 range with 40,000 miles at the auction here in chicago. I'm gonna asume prices pretty close elsewhere. Add another 500-1,000 for an 04. Thats what the dealers are paying for them so don't be shocked. It's also better to sell outright if possible as remember the dealer will add $2-4,000 when he put's it on lot.

Hack, take the 6900 from Black Noise, get on Autotrader & get a 15k mile SHO, and a loan from the credit union. Should be same payment, shorter time & you get a good car. I've got the ecoboost in the MK-S version & really like it.

I spent some time in a '012 Taurus and gave it a mediocre rating.(See Mr. Man's Musings) As far as an '010 goes I can't comment on the car but I doubt it is any roomier than the MM or that it gets significantly better MPG's.

If you are just thinking of a change I would keep looking JMHO:)

The car is creeping up on ten years old. Find me something nine years old that's as dependable as something two years old.

Age is the bottome line, if it wasn't we would probably all still be driving our first cars.

Given that all they are offering is 7k, I would pass. But then again, I don't know what your financial status is. I look at it like this, if your car is paid for, it's cheaper to keep it and get a secondary (i.e. used) car as a backup, spare, DD what ever you like to call it.

I don't think you can replace a one off car like the Marauder with a Taurus, you have to look at it like this, no matter what you buy, it is going to require maintenance, the difference with the MM is that it is paid for, anything else, you will be making payments and having to maintain it. Plus..... with the way jobs are in this day and age, I try not to live past my means if I were to lose my job or become unemployed for some reason. I like to look at these things a little more in depth.... if my income were to be cut down to minimum wage or I got hurt and couldn't work, would I still be able to afford said item, that little rule has kept me from making some big purchases.

In the end, it is your choice, as you best know where you are at financially, it is up to you to do what is best for you and your family. Good luck.

Maybe get it for the wife.... ha ha, but seriously if someone else wants it go for it, but dont trade it in for that, they will turn around the next week and ask 10k+ for it

Gotta do what you gotta do; good luck with your new car. Before you make up your mind, take your MM to Carmax and see what they will give you for it. Both places will give you a wholesale price but usually buying a new car is a better proposition when the negotiations are simpler.

I think you know $6900 from the dealership, while convenient, is a bit low. Get some pics and throw her up for sale here and on some other specialty sites like the SVT and Crown Vic folks. Maybe even the Impala SS sites (NOTE: expect resistance from those guys ;)). Ask like $10,900 and stick to your guns. This way, you get a few extra bucks and you're pretty sure she goes to a good home. :twocents:

Good choice! Another idea I had for your situation is make the deal contingent on you getting more money for the Marauder. Print out 7-10 current Marauder ads from craiglists, autotrader, ebay and what not and show it to them. If its a used Taurus you know they can come down a little on price because they are not selling it for what they have in it.

The dealership was rather stubborn on the Taurus. They were already selling it for $1000 below blue book and retail so they would ot budge on it. So we walked away from it. THey actually tried the whole "well theres someone else looking at it too" So I told them "well if it was meant to be it was meant to be."

Did you consider getting an extended warranty from Ford? I paid about $2000~ for my premium care, $50 det. warranty that expires in 2013 or 130,000 miles whichever comes first. It more or less covers every problem on the car that you would possibly have.

It is worthwhile to look into it.

Your price for warranty could be cheaper then mine. Depending on what you want.

Listen. I have a company car and is a Taurus SEL. Yes is a nice car but I would not trade it for my Marauder. I have a 2004 DTR that stay inside my garage and it use to be my daily driver. I took it to the Ford dealership for a oil change and all the mechanic were going crazy just looking at it and talking about the Marauder. I drove it back home and is just SWEET!!! No comparison to a Taurus. Keep it.
