Unplug the harness/connector from the FPDM and replug it in. See if it's that simple.

P1233 - Fuel System Disabled or Offline
Description:
The PCM monitors the fuel pump monitor (FPM) circuit from the fuel pump driver module (FPDM). With the key on, the FPDM continuously sends a duty cycle signal to the PCM through the FPM circuit. The test fails if the PCM stops receiving the duty cycle signal.
Possible causes:
-Inertia fuel shutoff (IFS) switch needs to be reset
-Open FPDM ground circuit
-Open or shorted FPM circuit
-Damaged IFS switch
-Damaged FPDM
-Damaged PCM
-Open FPDM PWR circuit
-Open B+ circuit to constant control relay module (CCRM) pin 11
-Open ground to CCRM pin 18
-Damaged CCRM

#1 is an easy check, start there and then try RacerX's tip if that doesn't work.

I know this is I old thread but I really can use you guys help my 2004 mercury marauder gave me this code along with a bunch of dash lights and a continuous sputter and shut off. So I wrecked my nerves and found that I had a loose ground cable connected to the body of the car. I disconnected the battery and tightened the wire that grounds to the car. Connected the battery back and it seems to be running ok but I am kinda nervous that it might leave me stuck on the side of the road. My question is can a loose ground cause this code to pop up??? Please help restore my faith in my marauder thank you
Fear is useless, have faith.
Just how loose was the wire? Wiggle loose? Corrosion can build up and cause a resistance between wire and point of contact with ensuing electrical problems.
It's fixed.

Well so far today I haven'thad any sputters, stalls or dash lights hopefully this loose ground was the reason for the car to act up... I am still not comfortable with long distance driving but only time will tell... thanks marauder family
