Drove the MM to work today down into Virginia and then back into the Waldorf MD area this evening. Stopped at the bank, and when I came out I had antifreeze all over the parking lot underneath the front of my MM. Couldn't find any broken hoses, appeared to spray up in the area of the radiator/battery area. Radiator reservoir was empty, don't know if it just overheated and blew out the overflow or what. Anyway, had it towed home and will deal with it once I get back from the desert in a couple of weeks.
It's turning into a "fun" week with cars in this household, $300 bill with the wife's Mariner and a $950 bill with the 09 Jetta
Oh well, one day at a time.....one day at a time.....one day at a time

Maybe Obama has some gov assist money under his new bill that can help.
If not I hope it ends up being a cheap fix.

Well, I'm back from New Mexico doing volunteer work with NRA's Youth Hunter Education Challenge (YHEC). I am one of the range officers for the Sporting Clays range, the kids burned up 12,000 shotgun shells and clay pigeons in 3 1/2 days.

Now I have taken a look at my injured MM. It looks like the outer plastic ring that holds all of the fan blade tips in place broke, and jammed stopping the fan from working. I started the car and saw nothing leaking out of any hoses, when the fan kicked in it started making a really bad noise like a baseball card in bicycle spokes...on steroids. That's when I found the broken plastic. My sense is that this caused the antifreeze to boil over and blow out through the reserve reservoir. Looks like a $580 dollar part with FORD Parts.com. The housing, fan motor, and the fan come as all one part component.
There was an online parts company that was mention in a thread a few weeks back that was selling Ford parts at a discount, would somebody pass me the website info for this place please.

Don't know if this is the same site someone else mentioned earlier. This is where I have picked up a few OEM parts.

Got an OEM fan assembly. The aftermarket unit tend to have "thermal events"...... they catch on fire.

Finally got around and ordered the fan assembly yesterday, from Tasco Ford. Their online estimate with UPS Ground is a week to deliver.

Been busy here with earthquakes, hurricanes, and blizzards....nah scratch the blizzards. Got the new fan assembly installed a few weeks ago, and had some time over the last few days to burp the radiator system. It did take a few days to get all the bubbles out, nothing like a 4.6 with the "Prestone Bends".
Everything is running great. It appears that the broken outer ring on the fan blades was the culprit and got hung up on the housing somehow, preventing the fan blade to spin. When I first got the MM home I started the engine and when the fan kicked in, that outer ring was making a horrendous noise with the cowling.
So for those that have had threads over the last few weeks about cracked/broken fans, don't screw around with cheap parts. Since OEM parts are only going to get harder to get for this unique cars, it's your responsibility to shuck out the cash for new OEM as long as their available....

Good to hear its up and running again! I have to play with my tune and clean my throttle body to get mine to where it should be. TB is hanging up at idle. We took it to dinner the other night. 1st time its moved in two weeks. 93 is still well over $4 a gallon here. Lets see, drive my Evil Orb thats more comfortable on my back and gets 32mpg around here on 87 or drive the MM at 18mpg and cause myself more back pain.... Still, I do love driving her. :burnout:
