Anyone?
Thanks again for all the input kids!

Lidio or DR can set you up with a hand-held tuner.

You can buy an x-Cal tuner from almost any speed shop. Lidio and Dennis have a lot of knowledge tuning the Marauder, which is a different animal than, say, a Mustang.
PM Bradley G, guspech750, justbob, or Motorhead350 for advice on Chicago area tuners, they've all had their cars tuned and can give you some recommendations.

Hey, what about Logan Motorsports? I thought they did a good job last time?
Elgin is in a location that's near Chicago. Is it that you're just itching to get her perfect so you can mash the pedal? Be patient, do some research on the tuners nearby, check online reviews, you want it just right! Oh, don't floor it until you get that tune btw!

I just had Tim Barth at Mr Norms in Manchesney Park near Rockford do my dyno tune a month ago. Super cool, super nice and has tons of experience with 32valve mod motors. And has worked on Marauders too.
My car runs and drives great after he tuned it.

Keith was the first one I called because he's so close, emailed too. Nothing back. Maybe he's out of town or something.
Spent a few minutes on the phone with DR this morning. I think I know what the problem is, but we'll see in the morning. I've been babying it since getting it back and only probably put 120 miles on it since.

Lonnie spent three days completing my upgrades and tuning my car.
He spent an entire morning road testing with me and making sure I was happy with the way the car behaves.
The keys got passed around last gathering at my house and gets flogged nearly every time out.
The Marauder has 112 K total miles and has been supercharged since 2005 & 80,ooo miles Blown Not the fastest but hard to beat LOL

UPDATE TIME:
Still runs like **** when it's hot. Spark knock increases as it warms up. Overheats when running the air. Someone suggested TR6 plugs because of the Supercharger but that made the Spark knock worse. Putting the stock (what came with the Aluminator) plugs back in it tomorrow, since the cooler plugs seemed to make this one worse. When it's cool....it runs like a ***** ape. Have to get this heat issue under control.
Oh yeah....bought an SCT tuner too. Jerry Barnes sent it out preloaded for this configuration. Did absolutely nothing though. (chip died?)
Everyone seems to have differing opinions on what's going on. It's making me CRAZY!
Have an appt. to take it to Douglas Automotive in Crystal Lake Monday morning. I don't know if I can go that long without driving it for more than 20 minutes though. ;-)

You really need to just step up and take it to Tim Barth at Mr Norms garage he will know what the problem is within 15 minutes. Tim is one of the best in the business He used to own Modular Powerhouse down in Georgia. Fordnut used to have him do all his tuning and knowing Brian (fordnut) he is picky so if Tim could make him happy that says alot Also Zack recomends tim also. He tuned my 04 SB with Alluminator/2.3 Whipple all I can say is simply awesome. Iam jealous you guys have him in youre area. Chicago lost Kurgan but gained Barth last year:D

Alright.....Mr. Norm's wins. Just left a message for them and canceled with the other place. In the meantime, it's time to go out and start datalogging this damn coolant temp.
If this turns out to be a thermostat issue, I'll be pissed....

If for some reason you suspect t-stat I would go ahead and swap it there a very cheap part. Was the orig t-stat re-used in the new motor? I can promise you this Tim will not start throwing parts at youre car without being sure of the problem! I have been to dozens of speed shops in diff places and I can say between Tim & his wife there were the nicest people to deal with. When you talk to them besure to tell them ur dillema and if it is ur only transportation cause being saturday already theres a good chance they got a full schedule for Monday, I almost bet thell still do there best to fit you in!! you wont be dissapointed G Luck!!

Are you positive that ALL the air is out of the cooling system?
FudPucker
07-31-2011, 04:00 PM
no, I'm not. I just came in from looking things over real quick and noticed that the Intercooler bottle only has about a ½" of coolant in it. When turning the key, nothing is flowing through the bottle. What got me looking is finding a little fluid on the floor yesterday when coming back from a drive. Wasn't very big, but I started freaking out when I felt it and it wasn't water. Wasn't oil, PS fluid or regular coolant. I soaked it up with a paper towel and it didn't appear to have any color, and then I noticed the intercooler bottle being almost empty. Feeling one of the hoses, there's fluid on the bottom of it. Checked the hose clamps and they weren't tight. I tightened em up, filled the bottle and turned the car on (not starting it). Still no fluid movement in the bottle whatsoever. I thought I remember reading that you bleed it by filling it up, having someone turn the key to get it running and then fill it up again once when it sucked the fluid level down, but should have movement in the bottle when just turning the key on.
Going out to check the fuse and relay after dinner.
FudPucker
07-31-2011, 04:13 PM
also....in data-logging it yesterday, the iat never went above 120 and only went that high because I was idling in a bank drive-thru for about 8 minutes, but when moving would drop down to within a few degrees of the OAT (it was 90° yesterday too!). I never let the coolant temp get over 230°. Just shutting off the a/c would instantly reduce the coolant temp, and the spark-knock was noticeably worse when the car was hot (over 200°). I kept a close eye on coolant and internal temps and never stomped it, although, I did do a slow roll-on the pedal up to about 65mph and noticed that the knock got worse, then better on the acceleration.
I had the mechanic put the TR6 plugs in it last week and now wonder if that was wise, as that was the fix for the old "stock" 4.6, but maybe not for this Aluminator?
RacerX
07-31-2011, 05:42 PM
TR6s are fine. Should be gapped .030 - .036Yeah, You need a tune. You may have ok timing , but, could be running lean. I didn't like the blending ramp delay and tuned that out. There's lots of things that need to be looked at by a pro.
justbob
07-31-2011, 06:18 PM
I meant the engine coolant. And yes, you need to have the other reservoir at least 3/4 full and should see a good amount of movement. What concerns me more is if your pump is not pumping, how could you possibly only have 90ish to 120 degrees IAT's??? Have you done the IAT2 upgrade?
FudPucker
07-31-2011, 09:08 PM
Nope. Everything's original, just now installed on an Aluminator.
justbob
08-01-2011, 04:36 AM
There is one major problem. Your IATs are only reading temps at the MAF. Your real IATs (after blower) without a functioning pump are probably more like 160 or higher, therefore pulling timing and running hot. You should have drilled the lower intake and installed a lightning IAT sensor. With everything working correctly you should be between 25-40 above ambient temps depending on idling and cruizing.

I'll be under the hood with him this morning. What can I get to keep a constant eye one this stuff under the hood, but that's not too ugly for the interior?
Also, heard from Tim Barth this morning. He's seeing how fast I can get in there. I don't wanna drive this thing for more that 10 min though without that pump running.
I've read so much on this car this weekend that if my right leg wasn't f'd up from a bike accident 11 years ago, I could probably find the problem myself! My right leg is fused, and it's a real problem getting into the hood or under the car or dash. If I hit the floor......I could be stuck there! (HELP I'VE FALLEN AND I CAN'T GET UP!). I don't make fun of these commercials anymore! Lol.

You really need the IAT2 upgrade. For now just check your fuse and relay to the pump. Maybe this was the cause of the last engines failure.

That's good. But if I were you I would spend the couple of hours and do that IAT2 mod before you go as well as making the connection at the FRPS boost sensitive. Your real IAT's will never even be close to what you data log. Happy motoring.

Let me change that question.....Can I save what Tim just did, so IF I screw it up, I can set it back to what it was?? I don't know if the "return to stock" command sets it to something saved in the pcm from the factory, or if it actually downloads what's currently in there and calls that "stock".
I paid $370.00 for this damn tuner and it's done nothing for me so far and I'm trying to avoid another day with Tim.

Your xcal is holding your stock Mercury tune. Return to stock means just that - stock.
Just hit load tune, pick the one you want, make changes, save and then load. You can always go and change it back.

Who knows. I drove it around and didn't notice it when leaving. I was just happy it wasn't knocking anymore and didn't just sound like ****. When I got off the tollway and started the real stop n go driving is when I noticed it. After spending the day out there, and $$$, I didn't feel like driving back out there. Especially with this damn construction we have everywhere here. (at least, lanes and blockage, you never see anyone actually "constructing"! Welcome to Illinois!)

When he did my dyno tune. I told him to keep my same shift schedaul for my 4.10's. And he did just that. Shifts just like I want it too. I also asked him for 91/92 octane tune and he did that. My 3 tunes in my Xcal are labled Mr Norms (my actual dyno tune), 91/92 tune (for areas that dont sell 93 octane fule) and stock tune.
Just call or email him if you are having issues or want something changed. Usually the tuner can just email you the changed tune to you.

This trip was suppose to be a one time trip. ($450.00)
The Tuner from Trilogy with the new tune was suppose be the fix. $370.00 and countless hours on the phone and emails.
If there's really only one guy in the country who can do it right, someone's getting F'd. (us!)
As far as using my SCT Tuner when doing the tune, he used a smaller tuner, though mine was in the car. The SCT tuner still has the 2 tunes it came to me pre-loaded with.
I've emailed him 3 times (with no replies) since leaving there and in the time I was there, he had probably 20 phone calls.

The few times I emailed him and called. I recieved quick responses. I even had belt and pulley issues while at my dyno tune. He let me borrow tools and a jack. Eventually finished my dyno tune 1 1/2 hours after closing time and I made him very late for a night out with his wife. Super nice and super patient.
Maybe it's your attitude, the way you maybe coming off to him in your emails or calls about your issues. I dont know. Sometimes crap happens to us even when we hire the right people. People make mistakes. It has happened to me it seams way too many times. It sucks. Just keep plugging away. Tim will set it straight. Good luck.

1. I haven't called because I didn't want to be a pain in the ass. I KNOW the guy is busy! I saw it with my own eyes and my situation is NOT life-threatening!
2. My emails simply stated that "the idle is high, and shift points are too high and asked if I should I bring it in, or is this something that can be done with MY tuner?" A pretty simple question, don't you think??? Was that nasty?
