What weight gear oil is recommended for the rear end in the Marauder? Getting ready to do the bearings and want to have the right stuff for it. I already have a little jar of the stinky stuff.

Ford changed their recommendation to 75w 140. I use Redline so I did need friction modifier.

^^^what they said about 75W-140^^^
FYI, Valvoline 75W-140 does not require adding FM. It's already in there.

Yeppers!
75W-140 Mobile1 here.
Look for an "LS" symbol on the bottle - Limited Slip formula. (Friction modifier added)
;)

Well, I just got finished with the rebuild. I put in new bearings, seals, and one new axle. Total in parts was $136! Was truly a pita. I'm too old, fat and lazy to be doing that without a lift. I'd checked the play before I started and the passenger side had a lot of play. I figured the axle was going to be bad too, and sure enough it was. I gambled a bit and just ordered the one axle kit, and got the bearing and seal for the other side. The driver's side had minimal play, but I went ahead and replaced the bearing since I was in there. When I pulled the passenger side axle out, it had plenty of wear on it. It had been making noise and getting worse. I've only had the car for about 3 weeks, and it's gotten quite a bit more noticeable in that time. When the pass. bearing came out, two rollers fell out. There was quite a bit of metal left in the housing. I cleaned it up as best I could without taking the whole housing out of the car. Lots of cleaner, rags and compressed air. The fill plug is magnetic and had lots of shavings stuck to it. I filled it back up with 85W140. I got all my parts at O'Reilly's because we get a good discount there and the only lube they had in 75/140 was Royal Purple at $20/quart. This stuff is not going to stay in there very long. With all the shaving that were in there, I'm going to change the oil a couple more times in the near future. I may look into a diff cover with a drain plug if I can find one. When I was finished, I had a slant in the parking lot. I drove the car slowly on the slant one way and then the other to make sure that both of the new bearings got bathed in the oil quickly. Took it for a short drive and everything is nice and quiet so far.
This car is my new to me 04 SB with 146K on it. Bought it pretty cheap, and this is the last of the major work that it needed. It already got struts and brakes.
As I sit here typing this, one of the great car movies of all time just came on - Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.

Sounds like you got everything taken care of with the rear end, good luck with your new ride!

Thanks. I'm very happy with it so far. Even though the miles are much higher, it feels easily as solid and tight as my 03 that I bought new. It only has 63K on it. Of course, it's an early build black with the crappy paint. My wife wants to drive the new one. She won't drive the original because she's scared of scratching it or something!
