View Full Version : Drive without insulation hood blanket

I would assume that if the under hood insulation blanket is removed and you drive the car... the paint will discolor or blister on top of the hood...
correct..?:pancake:
I was going to do some painting on the blanket and wondering if I could still drive the car for a day or two without it...?
Any thoughts...?
Thanks, Architect

You won't blister the paint on the hood. There are MM's running around with no insulator under the hood.

Incorrect. ;)

I currently don't have one in my car, haven't had it since late November; none of the problems indicated to date.

Noise suppression.

So what is it for

noise reduction? make the hood feel less hot to the touch after running the motor? maybe it was supposed to make a difference in engine temps? decoration?
Those are the only things I can think of, I haven't noticed any ill effects after taking it off.

Long gone here as well. I think some of the reasoning is too help silence the engine sounds. I noticed a very small difference when I removed it.

A buddy told me it was in case your motor caught fire. The liner would melt over it to smother or something like that.

Thanks gents, It's blemishing the pipes, so off it comes this weekend. It's easier to keep the under side of the hood clean anyway.

This is 100% correct, it is meant for noise insulation and fire suppression. In the event of an engine bay fire the plastic retainers should melt and the insulator is supposed to smother the flames.

:bs: The CVPI comes standard w/o the hood insulation. No reports of paint cracking w/o the hood insulation has been reported.

However, white paint is another story.

This is what I've always known what they are for.
