this is why and it also sounds great. SAE (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Horsepower#Society_of_Automoti ve_Engineers) 215 hp (160 kW) (2003 model)
SAE (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Horsepower#Society_of_Automoti ve_Engineers) 230 hp (170 kW) (2004-2005 models)[5] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dodge_SRT-4#cite_note-4)[6] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dodge_SRT-4#cite_note-5)[7] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dodge_SRT-4#cite_note-6) In 2004, the SRT-4 received a power increase, with larger fuel injectors and a recalibrated engine computer.[8] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dodge_SRT-4#cite_note-drivechicago.com-7)Manufacturer's specification when the SRT-4 was released was 230 hp (170 kW). However, several independent tests have produced results indicating that the SRT-4 produces more power than the manufacturer claims. The estimated flywheel power is to be around 270 hp (200 kW).[9] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dodge_SRT-4#cite_note-8)[10] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dodge_SRT-4#cite_note-9)[11] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dodge_SRT-4#cite_note-10)[12] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dodge_SRT-4#cite_note-11)
Torque:245 lb·ft (332 N·m) @ 3200-4200 rpm (2003 model)
250 lb·ft (339 N·m) @ 2400-4400 rpm (2004-2005 models)0-60 mph (97 km/h) time:5.3 seconds[13] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dodge_SRT-4#cite_note-caranddriver.com-12)Rev Limiter/Redline:6240¼ mile (400 m) time:13.8 seconds¼ mile speed:103 mph (166 km/h)Top speed:Car and Driver magazine achieved a maximum speed of 153 mph (246 km/h).[13] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dodge_SRT-4#cite_note-caranddriver.com-12)
Braking consists of an ABS system with 11.0 in (280 mm) F vented/ 10.6 in (270 mm) R discs and single piston calipers (57 mm front/36 mm rear).
17 × 6-inch cast aluminum wheels with an offset of 43 mm, coupled with 205/50/17 Michelin Pilot Sport tires helped put the power to the ground on 2003 models, with 2004 and 2005 models getting BF Goodrich KDW2 tires. Even wider 225/45/16 BF Goodrich KDW2 tires on lightweight BBS racing wheels (40 mm offset) were offered on the ACR model in 2005. The standard 17 in (43 cm) wheels were purposely designed to look like aftermarket wheels, and the unique spoke pattern allowed for better airflow to the brakes. The design showed much similarity to the TSW VX1 wheels found on the 2001 concept supercharged Neon S-R/T.
In 2003, Dodge engineers built a special SRT-4 Extreme LightWeight using only factory performance upgrade parts from Mopar in conjunction with lightweight, carbon fiber body pieces (produced in-house) for weight reduction. The car weighed only 2,500 lb (1,100 kg) wet and was dyno'd at 360 hp (270 kW) and 383 lb·ft (519 N·m) (at the wheels) by SportCompactCar magazine. On drag slicks, it ran an 11.83-second pass at 123 mph (198 km/h) in 70 °F (21 °C) weather.[14] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dodge_SRT-4#cite_note-13)

The SRT4 is a fun little car and doesn't take much to get it to run in the 12's.

Couldn't tell you, I've not run up against one that is fast (er) than me....:burnout:usually they have traction problems and they spin all the way till 60mph when they have been modded. Not everyone puts sticky tires on them because of fear of breaking an axle.

3-inch exhaust coming off the turbo is worthless? :O

Unless he goes back to smaller size after that, sheesh those cars must be crap for exhaust mods. Only turbo cars I've known that would be like that.

im happy to hang with a new vette for 8k

MrBluGruv
07-28-2011, 11:40 AM
I wouldn't quite hang my hat on that so readily. I mean stock, those things are supposed to be best around 13.9, and those are the higher-rated newer models. A 12 in that thing, while easy to get to with mods, would still require mods nonetheless, and stock Vette would easily hit that number, and with minor mods surpass it just as easy. Plus those things are a dog from even a roll unless modded, one kid got pissed at me cause he could only hang with my MM when he was modded and I was still N/A.

You know they have a big "stock" turbo when you can hear it spool up on the highway @ 65mph, and he still couldn't pass me, his girlie was laughing at him though..............

To each their own, it may be fast, but the quality is just not there, it's not something I would personally own, and would try to talk someone that I like out of buying one.

I'd put the $$$ into your MM, trust me, you will enjoy the end result a lot more.

Pinto's are cool, they even have a board on the web, http://www.fordpinto.com/

If your going that route, a modular motor with a power adder would be super cool, or a Neon with a Hemi.

Why not? I would respect your opinion. The Neon has never proved to be such a reliable car over the years especially after knowing people who owned them and had endless problems with this modern day K car. If you like it then thats great, I wish you luck in finding one and hope you have more time on the road then in the shop with it.

Yes it's a neon. With a big 2.4 4cyl and a turbo with minimal mods that will do 13.5 at well over 100

I almost bought a black SRT-4 Caliber. Those things make wicked power for what they are.

Then I bought a Camaro. I feel I made a better choice.

I've got to disagree with you on that point!

They are cool little turbo 4 cars, and I like them wayyyy better than riced out Hondas....

BUT

SRT-4s with modded exhausts (there are 2 of them in my neighborhood) are THE WORST SOUNDING CARS ON THE ROAD!
They sound like absolute $H*T!

I have an account with my local speed shop, they call to let me know when I'm due for new rear tires. 3-4 sets a year..... :burnout:

Nope, just the rears, IIRC, I am getting them for $170 a tire, mounted, out the door.

I have an apparent alignment issue with my rears needing replaced so often.....

The neon is a real car to, you can make anything into whatever you want, all it takes is $$$.

I haven't driven both to compare directly, but I know driving even a stock Caliber SRT-4 scared the crap out of me. The torque steer was unbearable, it takes a completely different skill set to keep it straight. I've heard that a few suspension mods can help that issue A LOT, but even so, I know I would never mash the gas in 1st gear again...
