Well I decided to pass on another engine on this site due to it's age. I was thinking of just getting a 4.6 dohc engine block out of a junkyard and having all the goodies put in. Fresh forged pistons, crank... exc.

So what pistons should I look into, crank, exc... the bottom end?

Also what power level can the engine blocks from Lincoln Mark 8s handle? Those cars seem to be a junkyards and would be a good block to work with. I plan on keeping it a 12 second street car, so I am not looking for over 9,000 horsepower.

I was thinking of slowing building this engine as more revenue comes in or maybe doing it myself... but I doubt that.

Let me know.

Which one? Was that the shortest one or the shorter one? I think there was one with a shortblock complex too...

Start from the ground up and find a good engine shop I sure your town has one? If not next time you are over at Mac's place sit and talk to him! I know he would get a kick out of and provide you with tons of info! Good info!!

The Mark VIII's engine blocks are stout, they have the Teksid blocks.

You might want to go with an iron block to save some $$$, the machining processes to rebuild an aluminum block can cost a lot and they'll both be able to take the power level you'll be putting out.

If you are going with an aluminum block and can't find a shop that specailizes in mod motors, find a machine shop that deals with mainly European imports, ie: BMW, Mercedes, Jag. They'll be more used to the machining / production tolerances required for an aluminum mod motor, as opposed to ones that deal with "race" chevy pushrod motors. The tolerances are often x10 as tight as the average pushrod motor, what would pass on one would be catastrophic on the mod motor.

As for internals:
-Manley H-beam forged rods. They're OE on the 03 Cobras and can take a ton of power and are fairly cost effective.
-Mahle or Manley forged flat top pistons would be a good choice, there's better out there like Diamond, and there's worse as well. This is a good place to spend the extra money, the piston to wall tolerances are very critical on these motors.
-You could easily get away with the stock 6 bolt nodular crank, if you want to save a buck, this would be the place to do it. The cast crank is more than enough to power a 12sec car reliably. You can go 8 bolt forged if you want, but then you'll need a different flexplate. There's no need to go aftermarket at all on the crank, the stockers are made by Kellogg and are quite durable, unless you decide to go stroker.

Well that's my opinion on this matter if you're set on getting an engine built locally, I'm sure others with more 1st hand knowledge could chime in if I'm out in left field. In my experience shopping around for shortblocks and getting engines done locally, buying an aftermarket shortblock from a company such as Livernois is much more cost effective.

Thanks for the info. Zack seems on board as long as I am not planning on doing anything stupid. Believe he he told me a number of times "Find someone else if you wanna do that." It's his little way of saying I love you and I won't let you do this. :D

Something HUGE. :) But I have a loooong way to go savings wise. This will take time. Thanks to emissions coming up in october, I either have to pay for a new dyno tune to pass, swap over to stock for a weekend, or get a dyno for emissions AND fun and just install the dumb thing for now and get a 2.8 upper, 4 lb lower (can I get a 6??), headers, injectors and a pump. That should hold me over for a year.

Hijack over.
