View Full Version : What a pain!

Monday night, my parking brake (on both sides), decided to shed it's skins, and rid itself of it's shoe material. So rear brake job it was.
I have been doing the odd brake job on cars for well over 20 years, and this, by far, is the worst / pain the rear end brake job ever!!
Trying to get it all back together behind the axel hub...could they have made this anymore difficult!?!
This was after spending 2+ hours hitting the old drum/disc with a mallet to get it to even come lose!
After getting only the drum part back together, I tried it; and the little "hook thing" that holds the cable, unattached itself during all the fussing (and swearing)...so everything had to come off again.
THAT WAS ONLY ONE SIDE! Tonight...side two.
I had to vent.
Thanks.

I don't think my parking brake has ever been applied.

Neither has mine.
That could cause the cable to seize up. Just so you know;)

I like using mine. Parked on a hill or incline is when I'll use it.
Also - up here in Ontario - it turns off my DRL's when I'm parked.

That's ok. As long as it seizes up with them off and keeps them off.

After my e brake decided to spontaneously come apart while driving, I thought the whole rear end of the car was coming undone. Very unsettling to say the least. After that fiasco, I did the e brake delete!:D

Can't delete the emergency brake in North Carolina..... they check it during vehicle inspections.

The rear rotors are always a ***** on panther cars. A 3-arm puller is a GREAT help and works every time.
I'd recommend against hammering the rotor or axle - you could possibly bend the metal on the hub or a stud which makes life VERY difficult when putting wheels on.

Never had an issue pulling the rears of a MM. Must be lucky.
