Was getting my Marauder washed during lunch here near work. They pull out my car to hand towel it and some guy talks to the guy next to me and says "Mercury Marauder, now thats a car." :)

Nope. Rear of the car was not visible until it was done and I drove away. I was indeed surprised that this guy knew what a Marauder was and even recognized it from the front versus thinking it was just a GM or CV. I'm sure no one near him (except me) even know what the guy was talking about.

It is nice when someone knows what we have!!

I got the 20 questions today but I don't mind the clue in. What I hate is the idiots who think they know all about it but are clueless.

I had an old boss say to someone else, "thats a nice police car". I didn't have the heart to tell him what an idiot he was and didn't want to take the time.

Sometimes it gets old trying to school people.

Yup. It gets a little old explaining a DBP to some know-it-all who just swears my car can't be a Marauder because "they only made Marauders in Black"... ;)

+1 I still get a kick out of someone that recognizes the car and offers up complements. And I never get tired talking about the car to someone who has questions about it.

I overheard two guys talking in a coffee-shop parking lot one night. One says to the other, "holy s**t; that's a Marauder! I'd sell this in a heartbeat for one of those!" He was driving a 2010 Charger R/T. His car was gorgeous...just not a MM I guess. LOL

I was "one of those people"!
Shortly after I bought my Marauder (Dec '02), but hadn't found this site, a buddy of mine called from Ocean City to tell me that he was following a blue Marauder down Ocean Highway.
I said "NFW!....they only come in black...must be a custom paint job."

OOPS!.......:o

Then some months later I saw a SB Marauder at a gas station in Southern Md!

By then I knew that there were 4 colors!

BTW: I wonder if that was Charlie's DBP in OC?

I actually was one of them, too. Saw a DTR at our local LM dealer in late 2003 and made the same comment (i.e. "must be a custom paint job").

First DBP I saw was in Myrtle Beach, I'm thinking it was prolly Gordon B's car.

We found out about all the colors when we order our SB. I wanted to get the Blue and the dealer found a new one in Conn. Ms. D isn't a fan of blue in general and she didn't want Black and we both thought the DTR was uninspired. So she picked an '04 SB. Easiest color to keep clean.:)

Most of the people here don't know\don't care like everywhere else.

But, there are thousands of current\retired STAP workers in London and i've come to know them by their reaction to the MM. A knowing smile and a nodding head gives them away.

I heard some guys in a parking ramp the other day talking about my car:

"man, a marauder..."
"yeah, those are supercharged"
"yeah, they're badass"

I didn't have the heart to tell them mine didn't have the supercharger option, but came with a nitrous kit instead... :D

I've heard a lot more people talk about the supercharger on the mach1 than anything... They see something sticking out of the hood and they automatically assume it's MadMax...

I'm not a fan of "Looks like a police car." or "It's just a Grand Marquis with different rims and tail pipes, right?"

I was at the car wash & behind my MM an unmarked crown vic. driven by a state trooper, complimented my MM & even said he knows they have a lot of power. Eight years later & my 2003 MM still gets recognized & complimented on even by state troopers, that is sayin something!!

Had a older gentleman (80 ish) and his wife stop me Satuday as I and the wife were at Ollve Garden in Dover and say "The Marauder was the best car ever made!" Turns out he has an 03 with about 47,000 miles. Said he lived in Rockdale I think. We stood outside talking and the cars until my wife called me on my cell to tell me our table was ready. Told him I had 2 '04's.

I was at a car show recently and a father and son walked by. The father says something like-Why do you want to stop and look at that 4 door fancy Grand Marquis? and the son who is like 14 says, Dad-that's not a GM -that's a Mercury Marauder -a true American Musclecar! Needless to say I was speechless.....with a very large grin :)

Hey Cheesehead - I've always said "If its not Black, its not a Marauder", right Charlie.

Sidenote first:

When I saw my first MM 6 years ago, I thought they only came in black and silver...found out right before I joined this website they came in blue and red, too.

So, about 2 weeks ago I was on my way to Bojangles to get me some of their great chicken and THE best sweet tea in the world. (Now I'm hungry....) As I'm pulling around to the drive-thru, a couple of guys walk out and I hear one of them say, "There's a Marauder!".

A couple days after that, I just pulled into my driveway after driving home from work, when a door-to-door windshield repair serviceman approached me. After giving me his spiel and me telling him I don't have any cracked windshields, he looks at my car with a puzzled look on his face. (I had pulled into the garage, so all he could see was the back) He asked me what kind of car it was, and I obliged with 'it's a Mercury Marauder'. He then says, 'oh, I thought maybe you had put your last name on the bumper because I've never heard of those.' :shake:

We talked for a couple more minutes, then as he walks away, he says 'have fun driving around in your...your Marooder'.:shake::mad2::shake:

I then called the police and told them there was a mad rapist running around in my neighborhood...
