View Full Version : How long did your OEM front tires last?

I found one tire for sale in town. I was thinking of putting my spare tire on the factory front wheel, the other tire in town on the other. Probably throw a snow tire in the trunk as a spare.

I think my fronts lasted 50K miles.... the originals. You guys?

I'm confused, you have close to ( or over ) 100K on the clock and you still have the originals on the front at 50K. You must do wheel stands everytime you drive.

I still don't buy it! Highway ot street, fronts don't take the punishment that rears do, unless you make tons of turns....

If you say 50K then fine it your statement.

I one the other hand still stick to my findings....

45k and they were at wear markers.

40K on each front pair, they could have gone further as they were not at the wear markers yet. The set I just put on will be bald before I change them due to price increases...

So where is this where marker and what does it look like. It might not be the same for wet traction but why can't I turn the tires around so that the inner where side will now be on the outer

35K only changed them because of a flat that messed up the tire.

Pretty much all tires have ware bars built right in they are lower than the tread and when the tread matches to then well time to replace.

Most tires I have use have a set of 4 so look at the tread following the currvature and you'll see 'em.

Dom, if your spare is like mine, it's never hit the road...but it's still 8+ years old! If you do use it, put it on the right front, so if it goes, you'll drift to the right and not into head-on traffic.

I am measuring by Ks, not 1's. Its a one up, not 1,000 up. Its a 1,000 mile difference.... equals 1K... one up. If you 1,000 upped me off of 50k you would have 50,000,000 miles on your tires... silly goose.

I replaced my fronts at 25k. I got a flat and decided it was time for new fronts anyway. No sense buying one new tire when the other was 90% gone already. I took the old (non-flat) front and pulled the spare so got 2 new tires and only have to buy one. My old front is my spare.

Get your front end aligned to the above specs and the insider wear issue will go away.

At 22,000 miles fronts were hard as rock, rode like crap and decided to replace them. No abnormal wear and not even close to wear indicators. After changing, noticed a big difference in ride and handling. Replaced with OEM's. Vehicle is garage kept!!!

What were you running for air pressure in the fronts, and were they also BFGs?

drobin

Running consistently 35psi and they were BFG. Running 38psi in rear and they have been replaced only once using BFG also..

Gotcha. So when you say "hard" were the tires dry-rotted or something? Just wondering what issues you had, especially if you changed out OEMs for OEMs and saw an improvement in ride.

I replaced both my front and rears at the same time. At 63,000 miles.

Cheesehead,

After installing new BFG front tires, naturally the ride improved and steering control went back to normal as when the car was new (didn't have to fight the crown of the road steer conditions). I also contibute this to the rubber compounds hardening and deteriotating over time and tires loosing their flexibility. The original tires had no sign of age or dry rotting issues. I do have the Addco front stablizer bar, which I feel did amplify the condition before I replaced tires.

My fronts seem to last about 36000 miles. My right front has shoulder wear and may need replacing at 25000. Left front looks great.

Are you saying that a standard front tire will fit in place of a mini tire?

With the oversized Kenny Brown brakes, when I get a flat I can't use it. So I'm dependent upon a tow truck.

Other than puttting a full size tire in the trunk well there is no other choice. Is this correct?
