View Full Version : Air conditioning stopped working in Death Valley

I'm driving home yesterday from Las Vagas. I stopped for food in Death Valley ( Baker, CA) for lunch. As I was about to pay, there was a city wide power failure. So, I got back in the Marauder and headed for Barstow. Did I say it was 116 degrees outside. A few miles back into the trip, my air conditioning stops working. I played with the controls, and got a little air out of the a/c setting (not the max ac button). Then intermitently, the air would blow hard and then stop. This went on for a good 1 1/2 hours until I passed Victorville, where the air started working normally. So, I concluded that the BCM failed temporarilly from the excessive heat.
Question: Should I replace the BCM (Blower Control Motor)?
The original had been replaced before. Or, should I just leave it alone and take that the excessive heat made it not work properly?

I remember that heat! At least it's about zero humidity! Lived in Ridgecrest, CA for 8 years. I would run it and see if it acts up again. It may just need a charge. Look at the simple things first! Ever see Scotties Castle in DV? Fossil Falls? Red Rock Canyon?

You figgered it out. BCMs do not like heat. Mine went out under heat.
Double check the air conditioner compressor under the hood and see if the clutch engages. But it sounds like the fan is not working which is the BCM. Jim

I orderd the BCM from Tascaparts.com Paid $48.40 + $10 freight and no sales tax. Saved $34 over local dealer. I should have it Friday.
Yes, my air conditioning works again. The blower does not sound right.
I am replacing it.

Hi new to mm.net this is my first post so i hope im doing the right way??? Here goes i own a 2003 black mm 300a bought in summer of 05 car has been fun but also has had a bunch of problems. I plan keep this car for some time to come so i will work out the bugs as time and money allow. My newest problem is the a/c suddenly stopped working. I checked out the blower motor (was bad)and replaced it. Still no cold a/c i noticed the compressor clutch ingauging and dis ingauging on off on off every few seconds. I tried a 20 oz can of ac pro refridgerant but that did not help and i could not get a good reading of the guage on the can because of the compressor short cycling. My blend door works fine. The eatc looks to be working normal? I noticed in playing around that my heat also is not working! So both my heat and a/c when on do not put out. Any ideas?

Sounds like the freon is low.... even if you added a can it's still too low that is why the compressor is cycling.
Are the heater hoses hot going into the car?

Short-cycling is a common symptom of low charge. Have the system checked for leaks, paying special attention to the accumulator (down between the radiator and the battery). It's in a poor location and is a common failure point.
