2 owner car, maintained, looks good in the pics, good price........
I would ask how recent are the pics and if the seller has maintenance reciepts. The price is already pretty fair so I would offer 6K and if he counteroffers I would say "SOLD" .....Good Luck!

What do you think about those miles though? apparently they're mostly highway miles. But in the post it says he puts 90 miles on it every day And it might be a month or two before I get the money together, that is if the car hasnt sold by then(which I doubt) :bigcry:

If you don't have the $$$, there is no point in making an offer. I would offer $4500 for it, and go from there, miles are miles, highway or not, they are still on the drivetrain.
I wouldn't be scared of the 145k on it, of course, I changed out my whole drivetrain before mine hit 21k. I wouldn't depend on it as my sole source of transportation, i.e., it's gonna need work, ball joints, tie rods, rack and pinion, transmission, rear end, trust me, at 145k, parts will be needing service.
Keep in mind, the average car owner, when they need a tire replace, they replace 1, instead of both on that axle. Same goes for ball joints, tie rods, COP's, injectors, at 145k, I'll bet it has had a lot of little things replaced, just not all the "other" corresponding parts that could have issues.

oh yeah, Im not gonna make an offer right away. But Im just curious as to whether its worth considering or not, I have about 3 thousand dollars right now... theres always the possibility that I could work something out with him, where I could put some money down for him to hold it something. Or a loan. Anyways, is there anyone near this location that could check it out for me?
also, Im a strong believer in fords :D I know crown vics hold up for 3/4 hundred thousand miles, my explorer has almost 200k on it right now with minimal work done on it. I dont think its gonna just die on me right away. Ill have to talk to him see if its had any work. Lets put it like this: Is it better than a crown vic with those kind of miles?

It's better than an old cop car with those miles. I'll give you an example, I just obtained an 06' vic, 141k on it, but it had 17775 idle hours, each hour is equivelant to 33 miles, needless to say, even though they had done a ton of maintenance to it, it needed a motor, front rack, tie rods, abs module, trans flush (it was a reman Ford unit with 50k on it), an complete interior, the vfd for the odometer repaired, a cleanout, literally, not a cleanup, I threw the entire interior in the trash. Plus a slew of little parts and a buff and wax.
But, I did get the car for -$0-, it just needed everything. A high mile MM will not need what this turd needed, mostly caused by high idle time and slobs. But I would plan on 1-2k to bring it up to speed, unless you can do most of the work yourself, in which case, your costs will be lower.
If you have 3k, offer it, times are tough, he may take your offer. All the seller can do is say "no".

Oh I can do more than 3k. also did you read the whole post? im 15. So I think this would be a great first car for me. :coolman: BUT my dad is an experienced mechanic, He has changed headgaskets, does advanced maintenance all the time, changed transmissions etc. I think im gonna try to go for it. On a side note, Im not surprised about those idle times! ( I wasnt aware you could calculate idle times! ) Im assuming that vic was an interceptor or of police use, cause 95% percent of the time the car is never turned off while on duty.

If you're going to buy a high mileage used car, make sure you don't use every bit of your money to pay for it, as you'll undoubtedly need to do some repairs on the car, and there's nothing worse than owning a car that's down and out of service because you can't afford the parts to repair it, especially if it's your DD.
Ask me how I know... ;)

I bought mine with 28000 miles on it and the motor let go 3 months later.
Plan alternative transportation for WHEN it breaks!
Not that there is anything wrong with our cars I was running it like I ran m 1st car when I was 16, merciless.. I know very few young drivers who didn't pound on there stuff.
If you buy a cheap one it will need $$ to get/keep it roadworthy.
It sux to buy a car you love and come to hate it by the troubles it has and the money you don't have to fix it...
Ask me how I know
Do yourself a favor and don't torture yourself with what is available now while you can't afford it.
Keep focused on saving for the BEST car in your range not the 1st one.

Yeah, I was young once. Had a '65 GTO, spent every nickel I had to buy the car, then something would break and I'd be SOL until I could scrape up $ for repairs; but hey, at least you can brag to all your buddies what a cool car you have while you're bumming rides from them...

I actually just realized I have 2 other cars to use! silly me. Anyways, just got off the phone with a nice young man named Clayton(funny cause my name is chayton) anyways I was talking to him about a marauder they had in stock at the ford dealership, car has 111,959 miles, they are asking exactly ten thousand for it. Car is in vacaville CA. anyone live near their that could come look at it with me, point out flaws in it, etc? what do you think about that price? He said the price can be worked on

Bobby,
No offense, but in reading your various threads, you're all over the place with your posts....In some you say you're saving up and only make $160/mo. Others you say you have 3K saved. Others you talk about your dad buying one. You've asked opinions on several different cars.
The question becomes how serious are you in making an immediate purchase of a MM? At 15, do you have your permit, insurance lined up? Are your parents on board with you buying this car? I only ask because before you start asking members to take time to go to a dealership to look at a car, you need to know if you are in a position to actually buy a car. I mean if someone goes with you and it turns out to be a gem and great deal, are you ready to plunk down 10K and buy it or is this just wishful thinking and window shopping.
It's great you have enthusiasm and are so passionate about buying a MM. Just make sure it is a realistic goal when you start involving others.
Good Luck!!

This is one of the biggest reasons I don't have my MM still today.
When you have a car completely paid off, yet you are making bigger "monthly payments" to keep it running and roadworthy than you would be making payments on a newer or lower-miles car, it gets frustrating in a REAL big hurry.
Even if you do get one, TAKE YOUR TIME MODDING IT. Unless you have someone doing the installs on the more serious things that REALLY knows what they are doing, you will multiply your headaches by installing mods. Stock however, with a few exceptions, I believe Ford built a pretty incredibly solid car if you put any effort at all into maintaining it.

I think you need to get a clunker for a first car. Exactly. A Marauder is a pretty ambitious car for a 15 year-old. Get something that's simple and easy/cheap to work on and build your maintenance skills while saving for a nicer car. Another good reason to have a clunker is that you can drive like a 15 year-old until you get a bit more experience, and if you wreck it no one cares. No disrespect intended here; I was young once and I remember how I used to drive.

well, I have a ford Ranger that will be my beater, crap car. I wouldnt be hot rodding the marauder, Its a rare car and I dont want to sit and watch my chance go by. If I can get one, Then i dont see why I wouldnt! I have driving experience, Its not like im just gonna hop in it, mash it into overdrive and total it. I would baby it, until I became a more experienced driver like you said

"I only ask because before you start asking members to take time to go to a dealership to look at a car, you need to know if you are in a position to actually buy a car. I also was pretty sure I made it clear that it was a mixture of that. I make 160 a month. yes. I also said I have 500 dollars from selling my stuff today, But I see you failed to notice that. And why in the world WOULDNT I ask opinions on different cars? Im looking at marauders! the posts on the internet provide suffice information to tell if its worth it or not! Thanks for the opinions of other members I have decided against a car I was considering. The three thousand dollars is what my dad would pitch in. lets clear this all up right here: no one, is going to get involved in anything until i am 100% ready to put down the money. When I first made my introduction thread, I was under the impression that alot of you wanted to help me. You dont have to do anything! I just wanted to share this with the Marauder community, I wanted to be apart of it here, I wanted to share my first experience with a marauder. If thats a problem, thats fine. Sorry for the confusion; but no one needs to do anything. Sorry.

Ovbiously my dad would be there too, But me and him dont know much about marauders, thats why I want your opinions! again I dont see why its a crime to have others critique cars in my area, I was absolutely astonished(just as another member said he was as well in the thread) where A member here was right off the bat able to identify several things wrong with a marauder I posted, the spacing between the lights, bumper etc being off. Why wouldnt I want the opinions of you guys! I always asked if their were members near by, I do not want it to be a burden. I thought they would maybe be happy to help someone else out. I didnt mean test drive it, just if you lived near by, take a look at it.

I Understand what others are saying. My offer still stands. I will not go out of my way but I am in Vacaville from time to time (and I think I will be there next weekend).
I would happy call the dealer, get info and pics and give you feedback. That is not a problem from me.
When you have cash in hand, I might be persuaded to go out of my way to look at it. People did it for me, I can pass it forward.
You sound just like me when I was looking at Taurus SHO's.
Also, where abouts in the Bay Area are you?

Chayton,
Slow your roll.....Take a look back at your welcome thread and you'll see I was one of the first to offer you encouragement....I even offered to start a buy you a car fund with the first $100. All we are trying to do is help you from experience. Take a look at the age of those responding. We've been there done that and know the ins/outs of ownership and the responsibility of a performance car like the Marauder. We were all overly anxious teenagers once too...We didn't roll out of the crib skeptical, practical and in some respects, wise. It came through experience and we are trying to impart some of that onto you.
Unfortunately, your "I'm taking my ball and going home because I don't like your comments" attitude is not helpful. Swallow your pride, listen to what everyone is saying, and with the help of this community and your dad, you'll be in a better position to make an informed decision for your first car.

ahh yes! I have not forgotten about you. I really appreciate that. I apologize, The last thing I want to do is hassle you guys! Im very, very grateful for how nice you guys have been. I want a Marauder for alot of reasons. I dont want to be another one of the 40 kids with mustangs at my school. I guess I just started feeling like I was being too optimistic, and that It wasnt even worth trying. I understand your concern, But I do have driving experience. Ive driven our ford explorer, toyota tercel, buick la sabre, I already know how to drive stick in my dads ford ranger and isuzu trooper. But you are correct, The marauder is going to be alot more powerful. I have a good plan for now, im going to save all my money till I get my license in may, and till then I will be mastering driving in the ranger and trooper. how does that sound :coolman: anyways, I hope this clears everything up, and ill be sure to let you guys know how the test drive goes this weekend :cool4: sorry if I was a ***** about it.

Isn't it ILLEGAL to enter into a any contract with a minor? How would the dealer / sellers Insurance cover any LIABILITY DAMAGE done to people and property by letting a minor test drive? Why hasn't your parent(s) introduced themselves to the Marauder community?
What we all did 20-40 years ago worked for us, laws are different. We should talk with his parent before encouraging him further in this matter. I welcome you young man into our family as a participant in some disscussions. We talk street encounters and show burn-outs, whos to say this person will not try it. If he seriously hurts someone will we start a fund to help with the medical bills of both parties?
I'll probably be banned for this, I only ask we think about how we respond to the youths who read and veiw what is said and done here. I've watch Dom come out to a Windy City meet and impress us with his driving skills. Later with the bulk of us gone I witness a 16-17 year old back right into a telephone pole. I would HATE to see any injuries thats a result of us telling him "Now go get that Marauder".

I guess its my fault for not completely clarifying about the test drive: I will not be driving the vehicle in anyway during the test drive. My dad will be the one test driving it! I will simply be a passenger. also, it is not the influence of the members of this site that have made me want a marauder. I found the marauder on youtube, I fell in love with it. I found this site and joined because I wanted to learn more. A minor such as myself can get in trouble with almost any vehicle, anybody can back into a pole with a car. Dont blame it on a marauder! also this vehicle would rarely be used on the freeway, mostly for driving around town. I also wouldnt drive it that much, this is a rare vehicle! I want to be able to say I own a marauder, not a mustang. I want to drive this in my towns 4th of july parade and hear the announcer say, "and here we have the mercury marauder! one of 11,052 manufactured." The last thing I would want to do is damage it. Again, I wanted a marauder for years now. and Whether or not I became a member of this site, it wouldnt have affected me getting one. Anyways, I made my decision a long time ago, before I even knew of the existence of this site.

We have a duty to ensure your safety and your community, nobody here have met you. Nor have you attended any of your local MM meets for people to meet the person behind the key board or their parent(s) at your age. I like many others here WELCOME you.

Hopefully those of you from my previous thread will see this. Well I found a marauder super close to me. a half hour away, its at a dealership. they want ten thousand for it, it has 111 thousand miles on it. Well my friend just so happened to be in that town, and without me even telling him about it, he was driving past and saw it, and took pictures. Is there anything you can tell from the pictures? Sorry they are not that great, and no interior pictures. I will hopefully get a full video of it this weekend. sorry for the first

I already did a few days ago! Scheduled him to call me tuesday. Supposed to test drive this weekend, but its all up to my dad. Funny thing is it wasnt at ron duprat ford, he said it was over at this other dealership that wasnt ford... but they own it? idk something like that.

Dirty
Headlights are hazy
The rear looks high. When mine has been parked for awhile, the rear is usually lower than that. I would want to look at the rear air suspension to ensure it is fully functional.
The body lines look good -- but I am no body man.
Too bad no interior pictures. I would be curious if it is an early 03, with no traction control.
10k does not seem out line for what I see, but that price changes once you see inside, see the engine compartment and drive it.

I dont know the airbag setup very well. They do fail from time to time.
Traction control ... if the car does not have one, you can run the same size on all 4 corners. With traction control, you must keep the 3% difference in tire size.
Your dad is wrench, an for the most part, an engine is an engine. He can check that out, along with tires/brakes etc ...

Personally I'd be hesitant to pay that much at that mileage. I don't think I'd pay more than 8K for it unless everything beneath that exterior is spotless and obviously well-maintained.

Well its a dealer and they usually have inflated prices. I think its overpriced, and it looks like they have been trying to sell it for a long time. Its at the very front of their lot and pretty dirty. I bet its been their for a while. Im gonna work on getting the price down.

Based on what I see ... I would start at 9, and would not go much above 9. This is assuming the interior is clean, even though the drivers window is down a couple of inches. Also assuming the motor is in good shape.
I find a blue 03 with 92K on her when I was looking in Napa, the sale price was 9200. That was only about 18 months ago.

Not sure if its my laptop, but Im not seeing "Marauder" in the rear bumper or the cut-outs for the exhaust tips.
Also this car is filthy and I'm not seeing whats worth the $10K with this mileage.
Keep in mind, It may be $10K just for the car then factor in tax, title, registration, plates, insurance binder and by the time you're done this $10K for the car may be closer to $12K. Im also pretty certain the insurance company will wanna hammer a 15yr old looking at a car with a V8 engine.
Good luck with your search, just don't get all over excited because the let down will only hurt that much worse.

I can understand your excitement about buying a car that you really, REALLY want. I was in the same situation 5 years ago and decided not to buy. 5 months ago, I bought my MM...after waiting 5 YEARS. Was it torture? Not really, but I think I appreciate being an MM owner more now than I would have 5 years ago.
Not saying you should wait 5 years, but take a step back and think about what you are really wanting/looking for (aside from just owning an MM). Like others have said, buying your 'dream car' on a whim and ending up hating it is WAY worse than biding some time to find the one that you want. You got the money and are working hard to get more; there will be MMs for sale...they aren't simply going to disappear off the 'for sale' ads.
After all, the pursuit is almost as exciting as the capture...

Yeah, need to better define "rusty."
If it's just surface rust on the bottom of the floor pans, etc, NBD; if the frame is badly rusted, along with other components of the running gear, that's no good.

gotcha, and gotcha. The odd thing is that the online ad was posted the 26th of LAST MONTH, and they were asking 14 thousand dollars, with no noting of damage! has 70 thousand miles. hmm... Carfax shows vehicle passed maintenance inspections as well, doesnt note anything about rust.. seems as if he doesnt want someone to buy it. im intrigued now! Ill take a quick look at it since ill be in the area.

OK! Now I am not trying to rain on your parade here buy I would go after a mustang at age 16 befor a marauder.First off the girls don't really know what it (marauder) is and the mustang has more kool factor at your age than a marauder does. For the most part the mustang will be be cheaper to operate then a maruader tires alone on the marauder are $$ and don wear well compared to the mustang.
Buy the marauder when up turn 20-21 hell I sell you mine then:) I do not know how tall you are but I am 6'6" and the big merc is a pain getting out of because I have to duck down so low. Things that a young girl MIGHT like about a Marauder:
Comfortable car
Sounds nice when you lay into it (that's a big stretch)
Things they won't care about:
Everything else
Things they will DISlike about the car:
their gran-pa drives a baby-blue or other pastel variant of one (it's still a panther body after all)
I loved the character of my Marauder much more than I do my Camaro, mostly because my Camaro has almost none to speak of in comparison, but I'm pretty sure it got me more female attention in one week than I did in the two and a half years of owning my Marauder. A great deal of that attention also came even knowing I was already spoken for, I can only imagine how it would've been if I was obviously on the market.
And Bigdogjim, you think slinking in and out of an MM is bad, try it with a 4th-gen Camaro or Trans-Am. At 6' even and being a fairly flexible 22 year old I even have trouble. :P

I really do have the worst of luck. I apologize, After being accused and harassed over and over, whether it be that im a fake, I dont deserve a marauder, I wont take care of it, etc I started getting a little irritated, and it is no excuse for me to bite someones head off over, especially to talk like that to a dame such as yourself. On top of it all my house was robbed monday night, and I lost $900 worth of goods that I would have put towards my marauder fund if I knew this was going to happen. So again, I do apologize, ive been having one hell of a week. And to answer your question, no thats not how my mom taught me to speak to a lady. I really should stop assuming all the members here are accusational male adults  ( also i was fairly upset because ive posted plenty of material on here to show i am who i say i am.)
btw I think your spidey senses might need some tuning :P

????????
"Dame (title), a female title of rank, equivalent to 'Sir' used as the title of a knight." ???????????????
edit: im not sure what you were thinking of, but obviously im not using a slang version of it. I meant it in a respectful way. thats the only version I know of, and the one i meant to use. didnt know it could be perceived as anything but being respectful to a woman.

I don't mind "dame" just don't call me "broad". Only Paul/Blackened300a is allowed to call me that. :coolman:
