Inquiring about the common symptoms of a bad MAF sensor - Car sputters/chokes at mid throttle- worse when on an upgrade. full throttle or flooring the gas pedal there's no problem or hesitation....

A buddy of mines use to actually stall out sometimes sitting at idle because of the MAF
A lazy part throttle is common with a dirty MAF, if it has more than 40K mi clean it as general maintenance...

^^^Agreed, but DON'T use carb cleaner on it. Use only residue-free electronic component cleaner or a cleaner made specifically for MAFs, like this (http://www.crcindustries.com/auto/content/prod_detail.aspx?PN=05110) one.

Nice that it doesn't always necessarily need replacing. Car has 105000
Will give it a good cleaning

You may want to clear your EEC adaptive menory while you're at it all. Dump the old stuff and start fresh?

I was actually going to use carb cleaner.Do that and you'll be buying a new MAF... ;)
And like Mac said ^^^ disconnect the battery for 10 minutes to clear the adaptive learning after you clean it.

A blast with carb cleaner defiantly is asking for trouble but can be used sparingly if applied with a Q-Tip on the "tough ones" when the intended cleaners fail... Probably 95% will be cured with just a blast of the proper cleaner, the other 5% will require more aggressive measures...
In a pinch, I once cleaned one with a good wad of spit and a old paper towel found under the seat, ran fine afterward... Contrary to popular belief you can lightly touch the sensor wires and not cause damage, no I don't recommend 80 grit sandpaper...
