I have a grinding noise that eminates from the front driver side tire/wheel/suspension area when I am driving at slow speeds and cranking the the wheel. ie. when I am pulling into a parking space. It sounds like someone has a screwdriver against the rotor. Anyone out there encounter anything like this? Any quick fixes? I hate to have my car out of service and in the shop.

Thanks in advance.

1. Lug nuts at proper torque? (95 ft/lbs)
2. Brake pads worn? (how many miles on the car?)
3. Foreign material stuck between rotor and caliper?
4. Loose/misaligned plastic inner fenderwell liner rubbing on tire?
5. Raccoon stuck in wheelwell?
6. Crack-induced hallucination?

Although my pet raccoon and I were playing hide and seek while smoking heavy amounts of crack, I have noticed the noise since I sobered up.

The noise is much more than a plastic to rubber sound. It is a strong metal to metal contact. The car has 13,000 miles on it.

You may want to try the old fashioned way about it, and have someone drive your car in and out of the driveway while you yourself crouch and listen...

Hope you figure this one out, don't like them foriegn noises...unless it's a ricer weeping :P

Go to Midas and have them look, the local one I use in Texas will usually check for free Maybe that is policy all over. Just know one thing NOT GOOD to have front tire fall off.

Dailydriver, probably something such as a rock caught between your rotors. Like cruztaker advised...have a buddy drive it slowly while you listen standing outside. IMHO

I did find a small piece of metal in one of the front pads. I had them apart when painting the calipers w/gloss black epoxy. The "piece" looked like it might have been an oversize piece of the metalic component of the pad itself. It was removed with the tip of a small screwdriver. The brakes seemed a little quieter on reassembly - they had been squeeling a little on low speed stops with light pedal pressure.
