I am very interested in buying a 2004 Marauder. However, I just read that it has the same motor as a 2004 Lincoln Aviator. Are they really the exact same motor? I've owned a 2004 Lincoln Aviator and I had a ton of problems with it. In the two years that I owned my Aviator I had problems with multiple cylinders misfiring on 2 separate occasions. I had not even reached 75,000 miles! The repairs cost thousands of dollars but luckily it was under warranty! I would be buying a Marauder cash, so it wouldn't have a warranty and all the repairs would come out of pocket. Please advise, I would greatly appreciate it.

If you want a warranty and a car that does not break buy a new one. A 2004 Marauder is 8 years old. You will spend money on repairs.

Mine has been problem free. And i just added a supercharger a few months ago at about 65,000+ miles. I bought it with 24,000 miles. Nothing but thousands of smiles per miles!!!

Also depending on the miles of the 04 marauder, you can buy a warranty for it through ford, as some members here have...just in case.

Motors are similar but not exactly the same. We have 2 MM's and and Aviator and have had little trouble with the MM's. The Aviator has had its moments. I'd drive the Aviator off a cliff if I could but the wife likes it so it stays for the time being.

I understand that the car is a 2004 and that it is currently 2011. I understand there will be repairs needed. I'm not looking for a new car with a warranty, I have one already. I'm looking for a fun car to drive that I can enjoy adding some upgrades to. I'm just hoping that it doesn't turn out to be a P.O.S. like my Aviator. I was not happy with spending 30 thousand on a vehicle that had to have the transmission replaced and serious engine work done before it reached 75,000 miles. I know that the Marauder and Aviator have different transmission. The motor is my concern.

Now that sounds like the type of fun car I'm looking for!
Thanks

Glad to here that you haven't had much trouble with yours. And you have 2 so that definitely speaks for itself. Thanks for the reply.

My 2004 Marauder had problems at 25,000 miles with the coils failing. The dealer told me what they wanted for each replacement coil. I installed Granatelli 65,000 volt coils instead and have not had a problem since. And I saved a bundle not letting the dealer do it on both parts and labor.

The Marauder engine is ,I believe,a 2001 Mach 1 engine modified by Jack Roush from the block up--increased compression, improved intake, etc. I believe about 17, 000 of these engines were built--when the Marauder program was terminated,Ford used the remaining Marauder engines in the Aviator. I have 122,000 hard miles on my daily driver '03 Marauder and it is performing just like it did the first year I had it--Texas summers are hard on a performance car and she has never let me down--I highly recommend driving the Marauder as hard as you like--just maintain it per the "SEVERE USE" schedule, change tranny fluid every 15,000 miles--oil every 3,000 miles and keep your radiator and anti-freeze clean and fresh. ENJOY Maury
Anybody with more accurate info, please correct......

Interesting stuff, Maury; thanks for posting up the info!
To the OP: the MM engines are quite reliable, provided you run the correct gas in them. Low octane fuel can lead to pre-detonation, which can be fatal. That said, consistently run good quality premium grade gas in your car, and no worries.
FWIW, we have quite a few guys that hang out here with 100,000+ miles on S/C'd engines with no issues. I had an Eaton swap done on my car at 60K and the car runs like a Swiss watch.
I've never had a mechanical or electrical problem. Mind boggling.....

I purchased my Marauder new in 04 with 7 miles on it.....she now has 106K and I have had a few minor issues....the biggest one was with the trans when a solonoid went bad....big bucks repair but was covered under warranty. Only other drivetrain issue was an oil leak at the oil filter adapter. Only very minor other issues that you can fix on your own, have occured with my Marauder.

I have Aviator and MM. Both are great but different. MM has double intake throttle body and Aviator is single. MM is much faster stock plus a tuner chip is easy to find/buy for MM but will not fit Aviator. My Aviatoris a special model package added by a dealer in San Jose, CA. It has AVIATOR CS emblems, stainless dual exhaust and ground effects. It also has every option offered. Both cars have about 70k miles and I bought them used about 2 years ago.

Bought my '04 new in November '03 and now have over 232K miles on the motor with the last 148K SUPERCHARGED!!:bows:
The motor puffs a little smoke every now and then on cold start-up but uses no oil!!:banana2:
Still running the original coils (interesting) and have gone through a bunch of idlers, tensioners and bought "hot dog" water pump I didn't need!!:shake:
Simply the BEST car I've ever owned!!:bows::D

:argue:The Aviator has about 109,000 miles and has given me no engine problems since I've owned it. My '04 Marauder has ben 100% trouble free with about the same miles on the clock... in fact I bought the Aviator specifically BECAUSE it has basically the same engine. :P
