Found this on Blue Oval today. Looks like we've got a grocery getting to compete with IF they really produce it come 2004...

While most look back at the Hemi design with lust, I had a '68 Charger with a Hemi. It was fast, but a real pain in the ass on maintence and tuning. I hope they do it better this time around...

I'm waiting for the postponed Charger R/T Hemi powered rear wheel drive to come out and then I guarantee, as much as I like my Marauder, it will be trade time for this old Mopar maniac (notice my user name).
Sergnt, I know what you mean about the old elephant engines. They were a bear to maintain, but then what da ya want when you get a factory engine that comes with 500+ horsepower? The new Hemi that was slated for use in the proposed new Charger was 353 ci, 353 hp, and 353 ft. lbs. torque, but with all of the modern amenities that make engines much less finicky.
Until the folks in Germany cut Chrysler loose to produce that car I will be very happy with my MM.

time will tell about that new HEMI. i suspect it's going to need a lot of aftermarket to make it really durable.
The engine is produced and asssembled in Mexico. It uses a lot of powder metal components, such as main caps, rods, timing gears, cam journals. The cam is an assembled piece, of a hollow tube, with pressed on lobes and jpurnals.
the heads look good, and the block itself looks good. the intake is made of nylon, but seems to have a lot of sharp and 180degree turns

Well then, RC, little hope of 5 speed, eh? With all that plastic, no way will the design team allow the driver to control shift points. Redline 5000???

Have you ever looked at a 4.6/5.4/6.8 cam? It seems to be made the same way, at least the lobes are pressed on.

I'll have to look into that. My understanding is the mod engine cam isn't assembled.
You couldn't press on the lobes and not have the journals be press on as well .

My wife has been shopping for a truck latley, and we went by the local Chrysler/Dodge dealer. I asked about the new charger, and the salesman said "nope, not this year", and the Sales Manager said "Well, it hasent been green lighted, but hasn't been axed ether." SO in other words. Know one knows when Chrysler will be given the rains of their own production.

I don't know about that. most of the specs for the 5.7 HEMI are for the truck version, since that's all that they use it in right now. I suspect there will be changes for a passenger car version of the engine
current specs are 345hp at 5,400 RPM and 375lb-ft TQ at 4,200 RPM
