I'm flushing soon for the first time with 46K. (Yeah I know...)
Looking at a NAPA 180 degree thermostat.
Have a 2005 DR tune and a JLT.
Anything better out there for a Thermostat?
Project Marauder Maintenance starts next week during my vacation...
Thanks!

I don't remember the brand, but years ago, in one of my 5.0 mustangs, I used a thermostat that had a larger opening. http://m.summitracing.com/parts/EMP-301
Something like that.

The best thermostat is from Reisch Performance Products.

As finicky as this car's cooling system is, if this is the best I'll pay...just wondering with my tune setup is a 170 degree ts overkill?

The reische tstat is the best in my opinion also, it is recommended to change your fan settings.
A 180* will be better suited on a n/a car. Just saying

I have it and I'm N/A. Very nice t-tstat. If you want to try and keep your coolant around 180, you need a stat that starts to open at 170. This t-stat also has the important thermal bypass that most aftermarket units do not have.

The Reishe thermostat has a 170 degree spring but keeps the car between 178-185 at all times if your fan is programmed properly. Remember, a thermostat is labeled based on when it begins to open. A fully open tstat is usually 10-15 degrees higher than what its 'sold' or advertised at.

Reische stat, 30% coolant, 70% water and a bottle of water wetter.

I always thought the mix was 50/50 coolant and distilled water

Just having a functional thermostat is a good start. I think I would rather replace a cheaper thermo once in awhile than pay $55 for one and never touch it again.
I also know on older Fords, going much lower than 180 degrees could occasionally keep the EEC from going into open loop.

Water wetter allow you to go with less coolant. It has some properties coolant has like corrosion so on. Go to redlines website. Reische performance site. Or call him yourself. Joel Reische 661-414-2116. He is always open to questions and has done some tests if your interested in that kind of info.
