Last winter I was stuck for a little while and burned rubber getting free. The tires that were on the rear of the car got a little worn out, but are still in fair shape. Should the tires with the most thread go on the rear end or the front end this winter?
I always thought the rear was the most important, but someone told me the other day it's the steering that's most important for winter use. I'm confused.
Thoughts.

Traction is the most important.

I'm thinking no tires would keep the car planted firmly in the snow. This is undisputable.

After driving police cars for 30 years, IMHO...Put your best tires on the front. Getting out of a tough spot due to snow only happens once when you go driving. Controlling your "angle of attack" is a constant concern during your drive, and that control begins with good front tires.
Just my .02c, carry on gents.

Been researching new SNOWS for the winter and have concluded form vendor testing we need 4 snow tires on the MM. You can go Steel Wheels in 16" or 17" or some other aftermarket fancy rim of your choosing, but do yourself a favor, get 4 Snow Tires and save the embarrassment of sliding/plowing on the fronts and taking LONGER to stop our 2 ton beasts in snow on Summer fronts and Winter rears. FWIW. Been running 4 Snows on each MM for the past 7 years.

STEERING is always more important than GOING.

Bridgestone Blizzaks is what all the Police cars around me use. That is what I am going to run this year due to the fact I now have an almost 40 mile drive to work.

Yup, I had blizzaks on my old 1991 GM and that thing was a tank. Now I have Pirellis scorpion ice and snow on the marauder and can tell you that I am extremely disappointed. Will be going back to Blizzaks ASAP.

I run blizzaks on the Merc and on the Mustang. Absolutely no problems. Even with the record snowfall last year
