My transmission is shot. Can anybody point me in a direction to get a new one? It is a 2004 Marauder. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Explain "shot."

I'd try to find a local repair shop that specializes in trannys and have them take a look at it.

Not sure what kind of answer you're looking for...Who said it's "shot"?

Yeah, that's what I'm wondering. What's the issue? Car won't move at all, O/D not working, won't shift right? :dunno:

Could be repairable, should confirm before just replacing.

It only moves in reverse and won't move at all when in drive. The transmission oil is burnt also. I got it towed to a local tranny shop this morning and the guy said it would be $1800 for a rebuild (done right) because our motors are high performance therefore thre tranny must be high performance. He could do it for about $1600 but it wouldn't be done right. I am wondering if this is true and if I could find a rebuilt trans somewhere else for cheaper. Maybe a junkyard or something Please help guys.

Uhhh, I'd get a second opinion if he's giving you that line...

Yes, our transmissions are just regular 4R70W's that are found in everything from F-150 pickups to Crown Vics to Mustangs. There's nothing high performance thrown in there aside from the torque convertor, and that isn't even much of a change. The only thing that's different between most applications is tailshaft length, and that does not constitute "high performance".

What's he doing/adding to justify the extra $200 in the rebuild? More care and attention or actually better parts? Or is it just to milk extra money from the uninformed?

If he really has a 2004 Marauder, the Transmission and Converter are different than a 2003.
Marauder power flows through a heavy-duty 4R75W 4-speed automatic transmission with improved shift response.

Find out what Ford will charge you. You'll get a 3/100k warranty to go with it.

Some difference between the 4R75W in the '04 and the 4R70W from the '03, but not so such that I'd consider it a "high performance" transmission, or that it would require extra $ to rebuild the '04 tranny over the '03.

Ok so now this guy is telling me I actually have a 4R70W and I know from visiting this site that all '04's have the 4R75W. I bought the car used about 3 years ago with 54,000 miles on it and never checked the transmission because I didn't feel the need to. According to him, because I have a 70W and not a 75W like I told him the cost will drop down to $1500. I don't know if I can trust this guy but I'm already $50 in the whole with him because he had it towed to his shop. I called another shop and they told me they would have to diagnose it first but more than likely it would be over $1000 to rebuild. I'm really in a bad situation because she is my daily driver and I caught the city bus today for the first time in about 10 years. This really sucks. Thanks for listening guys.

My local Ford dealer was the first place I called when I got the bad news. I was quoted about $2300 with them swapping it for my old tranny. Without my old tranny it would be about $2600. That doesn't even include labor. I would love to get a tranny from the dealer with a warranty but unfortunately I just cannot afford it.

Man that could be something as simple as a coil. Or your fuel filter, or cleaning the MAF believe it or not.

That is crazy, you could buy a wrecked Marauder for that, take the transmission out, and have spare parts off the wrecked car.

See if you can find out which shop handles the local police transmission rebuilds, they would be doing several 4R70W's a month and would be the most experienced.

You need to take your car elsewhere.

If my transmission failed, I would replace it with a manual. That's a lot of do-re-mi

PM Defyant, I think he had an 04 trans for sale. Not sure if it is still for sale but worth a look into.

Ok, just wanted to update you guys on the trnsmission situation. I gave the guy the go ahead becuase I basically ran out of options. I was already $50 in debt because I had to get it towed to the shop. I test drove the car after he was done and it rides like a dream. I also did some calling around and internet research for the cost to rebuild a 4R70W tranny and it looks like the average price is anywhere from $1200 to $1800. I feel a little better because the car rides good and the pricing seems fair. The only thing that I am worried about is the fact that this guy is only giving me a 12,000/ 1 year warranty. That makes me a little nervous but hopefully I won't have anymore issues. Thank you for the help fellas.

Sounds like all is good. I don't think that's too bad a warranty for a little shop and he could be covering a leadfoot driver since it's an MM. ;)

Thats not a bad price, i was going to purchase a silver marauder a few years ago (before covid inflation)with a tranny issue. It only got to 3rd or 2nd gear (cant remember) they quoted me $2200. Then again Im in Los Angeles.
