Some people were telling me that it is not good to remove the rear cats on cars. They didn't mention the O2 sensor or the loudness but gas smell coming from the back of the car after it has been running without rear cats. Besides emissions concerns some might have and the loudness it produces and the O2 sensors not being a concern are there any negative impacts removing the rear cats that you can think of.

I never noticed any gas smell with the rear cats removed. The noise level will be the deciding factor. It makes a huge difference in sound.

Only two differences I felt in the removal of rear cats was much louder and a little loss of midrange torque. No gas smell or check engine lite but I do have a tune. The torque loss is like when accelorating from 45mph to 55 or say 70,it just seams to have lost some quickness of speed gain under little acc. pressure.

I've had mine removed for 3 or 4 years...

No gas smell

No loss of torque

A little louder

Better gas mileage

I'd suggest removing all 4 cats, replacing them with 2 hi flo cats and stop the monitoring of the 2nd cats via a tune.

Even if you can't remove all four, removing the rear is the next best option.
