So, one of the mods I wanted to have done to my MM shortly after I brought her home was to have 4.10s installed and a tune done. I had plans to bring it down to Dennis in FL to have it done in May, but had to cancel; it looks like I won't have the opportunity to get this done before I move back to NC at the end of this year...unless I win the lottery (still buy a couple tix every week...you never know!).

Just wanted to get some advice/opinions from you all on what my options are after I move to NC (which would make a trip to FL around 6-7 hours, one way). I've heard a few people mention Marty-O in/near ATL (I actually contacted him before I hit up Dennis), which would be about 3-4 hours from Asheville, but just wondering if there is anything closer.

I will have a significant amount of time 'off' in Nov/Dec to go to FL, but the question is money.

Thanks for the help.

Rex, I'll see you in Charlotte on the 18th to watch the Packers...I got seats one row below you! My sister will be there with me; even though I'm not much on speaking terms with her, I figured I can bury the hatchet for one day and give her a really nice b-day present...

Looking forward to it....it will be nice to have someone to wear/throw cheese with for a change!

I have a good guy in Durham to do the gears or a shop in Benson, N.C. to do the gears and tune.

...as usual; I'll be in Fayetteville from 7-13 Sept but won't have the $$$ to have it done. Maybe in Nov/Dec before I move; I'm closer to Benson now than I will be when I move to Asheville. Thanks for the info, though...I'll keep it in mind.

Jeff at Mo's Speed Shop is a great guy, and they do good work, I'd highly recommend them.

Check in to everyones recommendation and get their pricing and turn-around time --which is very key to your negotianions cause you tellum your out of town and expenses for overnight are not in the cards ( weather they may be or not) --

Your best bet will likely be either of thE two above mentioned by Rex or Jim.

You may want to price the parts you want for buying separately and then having them installed for a price---It may help with any mark ups-----for example the 410's go for $160 normally--and are sold by others for $20+ more at install shops----

I've been scrutinizing my financial situation with a microscope lately; I'll have to wait until after I move to NC to re-attack having 4.10s installed. Unless I discover a trusted source closer to me, it looks like I'll be going to see Marty-O early next year.

Where's a good place to start looking for parts? Thanks for the help...

I bought my 4.10's from a member here. A few of the vendors here sell them.

Jones Ford in North Charleston has a great rear end tech. This is one of my ford dealers that I am the field service engineer for Ford Motor Company. Let me know I will get you set up with Bill Simpson the SM there. Russ Pryor

I was there just last week to see if they had any trunk lid liners....

PLEASE set me up....if I could have 4.10s and a tune done before MV9, I'd be in hog heaven! I'm actually staying at home this weekend, so the sooner the better.

THANK YOU!!!!

What's the opinion out there about 410's when you have an Eaton S/C ????too much traction loss off the line???

Nailing it off the line with a roots-type blower and stock tires will definitely light 'em up if you've got 4.10s. If you're going to be doing a lot of racing, you'll prolly want to go with widened rims and drag radials to get your 60 ft times down. Will also want to go with aftermarket or boxed control arms to get the car to hook up better.

I've got 4.10s in my car, and I love the great low end response they give me with the Eaton, but OEM 3.55s work well with the S/C. (I already had 4.10s installed as part of my N/A mods, so just left them in.)

I'm not trying to make my MM the fastest, nor do I have the $$$ to do so. I just want it to be as fast as I can handle. First step is getting 410s installed, then getting a tune; if it's still not fast enough, then onto the next mod....

Which would be _________ (insert your suggestion here)

Thanks

What you're planning to do is a good route to take for a N/A car. You can add a CAI, a set of U/D pulleys, and headers, but beyond that, you start seeing diminishing returns for dollars expended.

About the most you can expect out of a modded N/A motor (unless you spend big bucks) is maybe 315 to 320 rwhp.

You can add :nos: which will give you a big boost in HP for a reasonable cost, but the downside is the bottle goes fast, and it's not "on demand."

With that said, IMO, start saving for a supercharger if you want big HP. Addition of a blower, even with a conservative tune, is going to net you 400+ rwhp; and tweaking it a bit will easily yield 430 to 450 rwhp. Definitely the most bang for the bucks spent, and it's available whenever you hit the loud pedal.

EATON SWAP!!!!

Thanks for the advice, Rex. I'm taking my car to Russ's contact here in Chucktown when I get off work today so he can take a look at my rear (back off, CBT! :P) and give me the poop on what's gonna happen.

THANKS a MILLION Russ!

let me know on the tuner if you need one I should be able to hook you up with my old sct xcal 2. I spoke to a tuner just down the street that can set it to you pcm code.

Got home about half hour ago. Stopped by Jones Ford to talk to the tech Russ recommended about getting 410s installed. He gave me a couple pieces of paper, one of which is a parts list. I've attached pics of the papers and re-typed the parts list. Was wondering if anyone knows what exactly all these are and if there are a couple of items I can do without.

He quoted me $1500, which is right at my ceiling for what I can afford to shell out right now, so if there is a part or two that isn't necessary, that would make me breathe a little easier. I want to call him back tomorrow to let him know yay/nay on the install...if it's yay, there should be enough time to get 'er done before MV9.

Thanks again for your help...

I paid $120 for my 4.10's brand new from a member here. I thought 4.10's are about $150 on average. Maybe I'm wrong.

I paid $30 or $40 for an install kit.
Another $60 or so for fluids.
And $300 for the install at Deans Performance a local speed shop near me.

That was earlier this year. March I think.
