Ok, I'm over 20k on mine. I'm thinking that it would not be a bad idea to run some cleaner through the fuel system.
In the past, I used the GM product "Techron".
Any recomendations? Or don't it really matter?

I have always used this. It is suppose to be the best on the market. Don't ask me why though, I believe anything I read. :)

Chevron PRO-GARD Fuel Injector Cleaner-- Removes deposits from fuel injectors that can cause hesitation or loss of power. Restores clogged fuel injectors to like-new cleanliness in one tankful, while you drive.

Helps remove water to fight gas line freeze. Designed for engines that are sensitive to fuel quality and those regularly used under severe conditions. Safe for use every 1,600 km or as needed to keep your fuel injectors clean.

1. What are bottled fuel additives?

Basically, most bottled additives are fuel-soluble chemicals that can be added to gasoline to enhance certain performance characteristics. Deposit control additives that help eliminate carbon build-up on intake system parts and reduce the harmful effects of combustion chamber deposits are of particular interest today.

2. How do deposit control additives work?

The chemicals in these additives "pull" carbon deposits away from metal surfaces like combustion chambers, intake valves and fuel injectors and then burn them away in the combustion process.

3. There are lots of fuel additive brands available. What makes TechronŽ Concentrate special?

TechronŽ Concentrate uses polyether amine "TechronŽ" technology developed and patented by Chevron. TechronŽ Concentrate has proven to be unbeatable at deposit clean-up for fuel injectors, ports and intake valves and combustion chamber deposits. It actually restores performance lost due to deposit build-up. Unlike TechronŽ Concentrate, most brands of bottled additives do nothing to address knock, ping and run-on often caused by combustion chamber deposits. TechronŽ technology is recognized by most major auto makers around the world.

4. If I already use Chevron gasoline, do I still need TechronŽ Concentrate?

If you regularly use a high-quality gasoline such as Chevron, you probably don't need TechronŽ Concentrate. However, should you occasionally use other than a high quality gasoline, you may need TechronŽ Concentrate to clean up deposits that can build up over time. In addition, if you have an engine that is sensitive or if you place your vehicle in severe service, you may also benefit from using TechronŽ Concentrate.

5. How often should I use TechronŽ Concentrate?

The effectiveness of the TechronŽ Concentrate additive depends on its presence in gasoline in large concentrations for short periods of time. One treatment is usually sufficient, but a second treatment may give additional benefits. To keep your fuel system clean, use TechronŽ Concentrate Fuel System Cleaner every 5,000 kms.

6. How do deposits affect my engine?

Engines that are sensitive or in severe service can still have performance problems caused by intake system deposits.

Here are some examples of problems caused by deposits:

Fuel injector.

Deposits at the tip can impact fuel flow, upsetting the air/fuel mixture. Symptoms: hesitation or stumble during acceleration, even loss of power. Increased emissions of hydrocarbons and carbon monoxide.

Intake valve.

Deposits on the top can absorb fuel during engine warm up, leaning out the fuel/air mixture. Symptoms: poor driveability, even loss of power. Increased emissions of hydrocarbons, carbon monoxide, and nitrogen oxides.

Combustion chamber.

As deposits build there is an increase in compression temperature that can cause auto-ignition of the air/fuel mixture. Symptoms: knocking, pinging, run-on, poor acceleration, octane requirement increase, increased emissions of oxides of nitrogen.

Well, I'm still going to use 93 octane...but I knew there was something I forgot to buy at the grocery store a couple years back....:burnout:

Rich:

Techron is actually a Chevron product, and it is well respected as a fuel system cleaner. It had more value back when the lower octane grades of fuel did not contain the same detergent packages as the "premium", higher-octane fuels. Since fuel injection has become almost universal, all grades of gas have the same additive package, specifically designed to clean intake and back-of-valve deposits; the only difference between them now is the octane rating. SO, to make a long story short, go ahead and use it, it certainly won't hurt anything (unlike most OIL additives :nono: ), but there shouldn't be any need to use it at all; there's sufficient detergent already built into the gas.

I have used Techron on many cars with positive results. I have yet to use it on my Marauder.

This is something to consider....

Detergent is necessary to keep the pintles of your injectors clean and free from debris...

Detergent also causes soft/sponge carbon to form on your injector tips - back of your intake valves - walls of your ports - and finally hard carbon in the combustion chambers.

Techron is the best product out there to keep soft carbon from forming when used in a tank of Chevron Ultimate every 5th fillup...

Techron is recommended by BMW NA...

However, Techron will NOT remove soft/hard carbon...

MotorVac/CarbonClean has replaced walnut blasting by BMW to keep their tuned velocity swirl ports free of soft carbon build up..

MotorVac will clean your:

injector pintles (this is also what most injector cleaners do)

injector tips

ports

valves

spark plugs

02s

EGRs

Fuel rail and regulators

even your Cats!!!

and increase your mileage back to when your car was young...!!!

Sold thru Snap-On, Sun, Napa, Carquest, Sunoco

This may be something to consider when approaching 40,000 miles...

With our big ports - we don't have the same problem as most of the foreign engines...

With over 15 years of experience with this product (and as the first distributor in Florida) I have found that Fords experience rough idle and stumble, especially in conjunction with the AC...

Take a look at the thread....

I left the auto service equipment business around 12 years ago - so I am not selling this (even though I did by one for myself - and a $3000 - I didn't buy it because it doesn't work) - and no - I won't do your car...

I'm just too lazy to change plugs.....

and I wanted you to know about fantastic technology available too you instead of you're throwing tons of money at a driveability problem you can't find....

do this first, then you'll really know if you have a mechanical problem or not...

MotorVac/CarbonClean is patented - there is nothing out there that will clean the carbon off - not even the look-a-likes and especially nothing in an aerosol can... trust me...
