On my way back to the Tacoma area from Portland, I was playing tag with a BMW M3.
At one point there were two cars ahead of him in the fast lane, and the slow lane was clear for the next quarter mile. Needless to say I hit the right hand lane. :coolman:
You gotta love WOT. I smoked it past him, and he didn't catch up till I was pulling off at my exit.
Can you say...Wunderbar?

Nice work! I was wondering if I would make a fool of myself running against one of these. Maximas are getting boring!

Haven't tried that one yet, but don't try that on a track of any sort, cause you will likely have your feelings hurt.

Don't get me wrong, but understand, these cars are track ready off the showroom floor. Ours aren't.

Glad you you showed him up this time

I just finished a Camel, but seriously, IMHO I'm not too surprised, I've left a few of the "Euro sports" in my mirrors. I think most of them, as well as the Japanese sporty sedans (Lexus,Accura, etc.) are more hype than hp. We seem to have the best deal in the performance sedan class, and the best part is we're so unknown. I like to think I'm costing a lot of guys extra money, I loose them at the lights, they go to dealer and say something like, "You'd better check out my motor, some dude in a Grand Marquis just smoked me."

Not too shabby, if it's stock that's a 13 second car!

That's the first thing you learn in warfare...know your enemy's strengths and weaknesses. I'm still stock, so If it would have been a controled environment such as a track, he would have smoked me. But highway driving, 60 to the point the govnor kicks in, we got 'em licked. :D

Sorry but I think you just had bigger balls. If he wanted to hang with you he certainly could have. I've had people toy with me on the highway who I could have smoked but once I reach 100mph I always lay back. Now does that mean they smoked me or does that mean that I just didn't feel like going more than 100mph on a public road.

Guys, I love you all but please lets be realistic. The BMW M3 has a NA V-8 with VANOS tech and a STEEPLY geared tranny with a 3.08 ( or some shallow rear gear). even if it was an old one, only producing 300 instead of the new 333 hp at the crank a a frame 1500-1800 lbs ( guessing ) lighter than ours, a M3 would blow the doors off of our MMs, unless the MM happened to be heavily modified. when you guys talk about smoking high end european sedans/ sports cars I wonder. Those cars have incredible acceleration off the line and at most speeds. Its the DRIVER not wanting to get a TICKET or go to JAIL for aggresive driving. I have had a BMW 740 IL and know with out a doubt that car could take a MM with a stage one. NOT to say I dont love my MM with a purple passion. but back to the M3 I had a chance to drive one a few times and did, and good god amighty that is a RACE CAR from the factory. I feel most people will agree with me . No offense. let the flames begin. Peace.

I'll have to agree here. The BMW M3 is a high to mid 13 second car bone stock, and they run just as well out on the straights as they do through the twisties. While over priced, they are well engineered. I race people out on the interstate all the time, but in very short spurts. I mean, just how long does it take to hit 100 when you're already doing 70? Once I hit 100, I shut it right back down to 70, making it very clear that I'm done racing. Just my 2 cents

It could have been either. Or it could have been a plain ol' 3 series with a fake badge...I just know it felt good to not see him again till I was pulling off the hi-way.

Since when? The BMW M3 has a 333hp 3.3L I6, they just seem like they have a V8. :)

It was hard to tell in the rain, but I don't recall it having that, plus it was not that much smaller than the MM.
Now that you mention it, it could have been a 5 series. I didn't even pay attention to the left side of the trunk. I remember when they first brought out the M3 it had the full body flare, and the 3 series only came in 2 door till 93 or 4. I havn't tried to keep up with them, but the original M3 was the only one that had that chrome M on the right side of the trunk.
If I'm wrong, I'm truely sorry for getting everyones testosterone pumping. :depress:

About the V8 your absolutely 100 % correct I was thinking of the M5, I apologize for my hastily written response, nevertheless those 333 horses are there, crazy germans. The MM can probably take any 525-530 (stock), the 540 might be an even run.

The following is NOT to ANYONE, merely stream or conscienceness:
It seems like everytime I speak about BMW's here I get into a flamming contest , or some sort of argument with someone and thats not what im trying to do. I love my Canadian / American made Mercury Marauder but as I said about 6 months ago the BMW's will always have a special place in my right foot. :pimp:

Naaaaa...This is more like a civil discussion between differing opinions, with out getting personal. :shot: (Heck, it seems like we're close to a concensus!)That is what I love about this sight, second to the cars of course. :D

With the Impala SS being the exception, I don’t know of any newer car that has as much of a family of owners as the MM. I have not herd of any Lexus, BMW or Mercedes owners planning on getting together at a national meet.

I can understand the special place in your right foot. I enjoyed the 525 I had in Germany. (The only thing I didn’t understand with it was why the governor where you have unlimited speeds on the autobahn :burnout: )

I think you bring up a good question. Why does liking the Marauder require that BMW's (or Hondas, of Chevys) be junk? If I had the money, and the willingness to spend it on a car, the 5 series Bimmer is very attractive. My wife has a Honda. She loves it. Every Honda we have had has been as reliable as a hammer and as smooth as a Bill Clinton speach. What's not to like?

I love my Marauder partly because of the contrast to a Bimmer. The Bimmer is smooth. elegant, and OMG fast. The Marauder is explosive, long legged and intimidating. Both styles have their fans.

To quote my guru Rodney King, "Can't we all get along?"

I think everyone would agree that 1 second is a big difference in the 1/4 mile, ie you'll always lose a heads up race to a car running a 13.0 if you run a 14.0. Well consider that on the open road there are no staging lights and the jump is always good for at least 1 second, much more if the mark didn't immediately commit. So if you made the first move then he was in a hole, for which he would have needed a lot of time or a lot more quickness to over come.

LVMarauder,

I KNOW a Marauder with a Kook's exhaust can take a BMW 530i. My girlfriend was on her way to pick me up from somewhere and she was driving my Marauder. Someone in a 530i revved on her at a stop light on Jones Blvd. She took my Marauder up to 90 mph. She lost him right out of the hole. The driver flagged her down at the next light and wanted to know what was done to the car!
