Ok, I am looking at possibly cutting my stock springs to lower the car this weekend. My question is what is the best way to cut the springs, I know I need to go least heat produced route. The two options I am looking at right now is using a saws all with a metal cut blade or using a porta ban. Anyone able to weigh in on pros and cons of the two routes I am looking at or able to suggest a better tool to use?

I used a carbide cutoff wheel. Any mechanic will do them for a 20 dollar bill. Nice cool, clean cut and a full coil gave me a 1.25" drop. Cut the TOP coil.
You'll go through a lot of blades using a saw. The cut off wheel is the way to go.

Angle grinder and cutoff wheel, definitely.

My Mech did it free when he changed the shocks, used an angle grinder.

Been down the cut off wheel road. Now that I own a portable bandsaw I wouldn't waste my time with anything else!

Don't use any heat! Cut with what others above have recommend. Take measure meaurements on both sides of the front and write them down. You will want to make sure the differences between the Left and Right remain the same after cutting. It would also be wise to get an alignment done afterwards and use Carfixer specs for it.

Portable band saw is the way to go! Sawzall is the 2nd best way. I wouldnt use a wheel or anthing that will intrduce enpugh heat to change the metallic properties.
Hint: wrap a piece of sheet metal around the coil under where you're cutting to avoid damaging it after you cut through.

Has anyone on here cut Moog Springs? If so how much did you cut?
I had a cracked FR stock and finally got the Moogs on yesterday and the car is sitting way too high up front. It's funny looking as of now
I think the spring rate is different between them and stock, which makes me think they may need more or less then the 1 coil cut I wanted to do on stock. I'm looking for advice before I get surgical.
I like the performance just not the height, especially coupled with the Monroe Severe Service Shocks on all corners.:banana2:

If you just installed your springs yesterday they are going to settle and lower as you drive the car over the next few days.

Yeah I figured it would drop about 1/2 inch. As the car sits in the parking lot currently I can see the entire front tire top surface... its a 245/40-18 tire, I feel Naked :o
Should I expect more or less settling than 1/2" over the next few weeks?

Yeah i would drive the car, and wait a couple weeks for it to settle and then you may not feel the need to cut your coils
