I did it without the spring removal a few weeks back. Did it mostly for quicker reverse engagement and better tranny health. Didn't do springs as I removed them from my 01 vic and always hated how hard the shifts were. However I also had tranny fluid pressure maxed so I never knew how firm the shifts were with just spring removal.

I'm doing mine this week, just waiting on gaskets to start. I have 5 gallons of Amsoil ATF on tap ready to go!
But I don't know if I'm doing the springs or not.
So far the replies to this post haven't helped clarify that one bit.
Mainly doing it for tranny health too.

lol i figured that it might have been a "been there done that" mod with everyone. any PROS or CONS on the spring removal besides the hard shifts?

Can't remember how much I spent on mine, but I did the full drain (the best I could) and changed filter at the same time, was like 10qts + filter cost.
When I removed all my springs completly from my 01CVPI and had the pressure at max (via tune) it was way too hard IMO. I'm a young guy and can stand a good bit of umph, but after a month or so it got very annoying. Yes it would easily spin 1/2 shift, but I wouldn't do it again.
However many on here said they didn't springs without tuning up the shift pressure and it wasn't bad at all. So YMMV.

Harsh shifts can be addressed in the tune - either have the 1-2 shift happen at very low RPM's where you won't get a JERK, or enjoy a 1-2 wheelspin at higher TP's. It's a win both ways!

Had mine done several months ago and wish I did it so long ago. I removed the spring and even with a PI 3500 stall that absorbs some of the shift I have my shift pressure on the 1-2 shift to zero % at light, medium and heavy throttle and it's still pretty firm but not jerking firm.
If you have a tune, turn the shift pressure down to zero then adjust up if needed.

I did the J-mod last year along with a PI 2800 triple disc. Removed the springs and maxed out the shift pressure on the X3 handheld. Love it:burnout:
