Could my tranns be going out? Turned off my car. And it stopped has this happened to anyone else ?

i put it in park at a drive threw and i noticed the rpm was going past 1000x rpm slowly i didn't think much of it so i put it in neutral didnthe same thing. I turned the car off and started it again.and it went back to normal

Doubt its a trans issue. Sounds more like an air/fuel/sensor issue.

If it only did it one time for a short amount of time...wouldn't think much of it until it does it again.

Highly doubtful it's anything to do with the transmission. I'd look at the IAC first...

My car was doing the same thing, cleaned my IAC, and MAF problem solved!

If you drive in town alot or in bumper-to-bumper traffic on the freeway, the IAC is actuated. I just replaced an IAC on on my dad's ranger with only 45,000 miles on it.
The electrical guys at work had me check out the old unit and the solenoid was binding and not switching properly. Jim
