Chrome Intake a bad idea???

yup,.. that's what I was told by a local chrome shop. I told him I wanted to chrome my upper intake on my Marauder. He perked right up,.. "You have a Marauder? .. wow,.. cool!" :D

The guy seemed to know a bit about it. He said I'd prob'ly run into heat problems,.. hmmm,.. I hadn't really thought about it, but I guess that makes sense. I guess you could have detonation problems huh?

His advise: "dude,.. just polish it...it's aluminum." Well,.. as it happens I know quite a bit about polishing aluminum,.. it's funny, I do it to helicopter components 10 hours a day. I guess that's why it never occurred to me to do it! :lol:

I guess I could polish it,.. it sure would cut the costs! And polished Aluminum looks like chrome anyway.

Anyway,.. any thoughts on this?

It's true, chrome will retain heat, fine for show cars that don't see the road too often.

Well, I'm gonna polish 2 sets of intakes. One for me,.. one for TAF. I know I can make them look like chrome. Now depending on how long it takes me and the PITA factor,... I may offer this service to MM.net members.

I'll start polishing around the beginning of February. (after I get an air compressor) I'll post my progress and any problems I run into if someone out there wants to do this for themselves.
