HVAC/Airbox Spring Thing

Was under the dash and came across this rogue spring on an arm linked to some sort of vacuum actuator
and controls a dampener on the airbox just over the front seat passenger's feet....any ideas what this thing is doing (or isn't)?

Everything seems to be working just fine without the known HVAC demons so I've just left it be
for all these years but now its bugging me:

I just checked mine....

The other "eye" of the spring needs to be on the hook on the left side. I believe it's an "assist" for the vacuum motor.

Thanks gents....was obviously looking within the radius of this thing's reach and that hook looked ideal...will work a little harder to throw it back on there...

When I made a few attempts the angle just didn't seem right but I'll revisit it...
