View Full Version : Selling a slightly wrecked Marauder!NEED ADVICE

I hit a deer 8 months ago in my 2003, silver Marauder. The front left fender will need to be replaced, along with a hood, and a radiator. Everything is is in great working harder. The right side is nearly immaculate with no comsmetic damage. The rear end is in excellent shape. The motor, transmssion, and everything under the hood is in working order aside from the radiator I removed.

In addition, the rims are perfect, haven't lost their glimmer and the tires on them are brand new. Also, I have a set of $2100 dollar chrome five star rims with black inserts as a bonus just received new tires.

My question is: How much, ballpark, preferably on the low end is my Marauuder worth as a hole. Would it be better to try to sell it as a full unit, or perhaps part it out. The inside is immaculate, it comes with the stock, radio and the seats have been maintained with baby oil and is a black beautiful leather.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I'd prefer to sell it soon to make room for another project. Willing to negotiate as I have settled on no firm price. I was hoping the Marauder community could help me establish a baseline value and form a plan of attack for selling it.

Thank you, your advice is greatly appreciated.

Was it totaled by insurance? From what you described it only sounds like about 3500 bucks to fix with parts and labor? How many miles are on the car? Did the airbags pop?

It had 83,000 miles on it. I did not turn it into the insurance as it was considered my fault for hitting a deer

Thanks for the quick replies. Advice is very much needed.

How is hitting a deer considered your fault? Were you out driving in the woods again? Was the deer in the other lane? left of center? just kidding:eek:

isn't that why we have collision insurance?

Perhaps $10,000 is a rough idea to get you in the ballpark of what you can possibly get... Depending how & where (location) you it. don't forget shipping, title transfer, etc...

BABY OIL?? ...am i missing something?

Baby oil mixed in with some other solution to avoid the sun damage; it gets very hot here and it worked very well. The seats are fine.

Cellphone pics are coming up shortly then some good digital cam pics.

I don't even really know how big the deer was. It was the first time I had been challenged to a quarter mile race. When we topped a sloping and curved hill at about 120 it just appeared. The deer was absolutely anhilated.

By the way wise ass, the color is black with the baby oil on it.

 a deer at 120 and your car want made into a convertible ....you're lucky man. and by the looks of damage he had to be the size of a truck

Given the amount of damage and what you can buy a functional car for 5K sounds about right. Lotta work right there, be a good buy for someone who can do the work themselves. No sense parting it for mostly cosmetic damage.

Everyone has opinions--so here is mine-

A lot of those ( opinions) are good --previously spoken--some a bit nerve racking-

The car is worthy of fixing --but you don't have the time , patience or skill to do it apparently--, plus probably still making payments --otherwise you would be taking your time to discuss a lot of separate conditions with folks for the best $$ for yourself..

All this means --take what time you can --cause these cars now can bring in some $$ you may wish you kept for dealing later--but --it seems you need it now--so be careful-

The car is worth more than you think --though as it appears , it seems to be more cosmetic as said before--maybe pics of inside and the drivers outside would help --seems the dear took the role over to that way and the antler hit the back window---

If you have the time --check around a lot more on these matters---

Well, for those who doubt me, it was definitely a deer. You can still see these grease and hair all over the windshield and below the hood. I don't have the time to fix myself or the skill, so it would probably turn into a money pit. Right now I'm being offered $2500 and will probably take it. There is no damage to the motor/transmission whatsoever.

Thanks for the quick replies. Advice is very much needed.

Um, unless there is more to the story, hitting a deer is a comprehensive claim and is not considered an at fault accident. Turning in a comp claim won't even affect your rates. Some one has given you some bad advice.

If it was me (I own an insurance agency), I would submit the claim for the deer hit & have it fixed. Should they total it then buy it back for the salvage price and find someone that will do a side job to repair. You may even come out ahead on the deal.

Now, if you swerved to avoid the deer and hit a sign or tree, etc - thats a different story and would be considered an at fault accident. :)

I didn't doubt you Bud, just didn't know the detail about the racing at 120mph...
Now I know why the insurance angle wouldn't work for you.
Sounds like you are lucky you didn't get hurt.

I was also ticketed upon the police arriving for failure to maintain lane and reckless driving. My skidmarks after hitting the deer indicated I was going way past 55 mph.

You still had a valid comp claim and insurance would have paid the damage (provided you had comprehensive coverage). Worst case they would have dropped you after the claim which would not have mattered given the citations mean a hefty rate hike anyway.

Were at in Missouri are you? It's is repairable from what I see but unless youre doing all the work youreself its gonna end up more then you can buy a decent MM for. Really curious as to were in Missouri you are Iam in Warrenton between St Louis and Columbia.. Wouldnt mind looking at it in person.

LOL Shaijack. If that deer lived, and I could find hardly any part of him, he probably has some of my Marauder hung over his living room.
If Bodymann comes and looks at it like we're talking about perhaps he can shed some more light on the condition of the car.

All the parts save for the grille/header panel/ headlights/corner lights/ bumper cover are REALLY CHEAP. Can get a used up cab cheaper than buying a front clip..

At a good reputable shop? Uh more then that for sure the rad supt is toast along with bunch of other things. Now if a guy were to fix on the side Id guess 4500ish possibly more. Bodywork adds up fast anymore, it takes nothing to do $3,000 fender bender.

Deer collisions are covered under the "Comprehensive" clause of your insurance plan.
Its a "No Fault" provision, just like a stone hitting your windshield. Normally a deductible applies if that's how it was set up. So "FAULT" never comes into the picture in regards to deer accidents.

Talked with him on the phone today he was a cool and straight forward dude. More than likely, I'll take a couple hundred dollar hit just to sell it to someone on these boards.

All these are aftermarket parts in Canadian dollars. Total comes to around $3997.25 plus the parts that aren't listed. You will be looking at around $4500 or more in just parts. Decent paint job is at least 2 grand. To get that car looking good again will cost around 6-7 grand. If you got connections and buy used parts you might be able to get it done for half that.

After it's all said and done you will be driving a car that's been in a wreck. If police was involved the accident will show up in any future vehicle history report which will be driving a resale value down. I wouldn't pay over $3k for that car. You might make more parting it out.

Youre pretty close! bags deployed also. Parting it out would net more however for some it isnt a option. If I was in the market for a 2nd Id snatched it up and it wouldve only costed me the price of used frt end. I hope someone fixes it though to many have gone to the graveyard. It is actually a simple repair for someone who has done alot of CV's & GM's just expensive.
