Thursday was my court day for "Excessive speed" (70 in 35mph), well Brad suggested that I call Chicago Bar Association for help. I did and had three referals, two were priced a little high but I found one where the price was ight for me. The city (Chicago) is tring to be fair in these times. What the city does is fine you or you pay court cost either way you'll pay the system. Times are rough for everyone (the city also ask when can you pay), I've seen seniors in court for driving without Insurance fine ($260), running a stop sign ($160). I figured that I'm gonna pay one way or another, well my turn came and it was kicked upstairs, because of the excessive speed (which I was warned) this happen. Well the Judge as he took his seat said "This court is for FELONY cases, if you don't have a Lawyer I recommend that you get one" well thanks to Brad I had one.

My Lawyer begins talking immediately with the States Attorney, after that we both go into the hall. These are my options ALL charges would be dropped and I pay court cost, I can try to fight the speeding ticket but because it's radar that will be hard to beat. Well I took the court cost and now begins the next story. Now I go before the Judge to answer a series of questions regarding my Guilty Plea, man that was hard to do.

Well now I ask to see what it costing me. I can now say, I'm paying for everything and employee in the goverment. Total $340.00 court cost, and this will not show on my driving record. I think what also helped my case was NO VIOLATIONS or Suspensions in over 10 years. So anybody in Chicago that needs a reasonably price Lawyer PM me.

Thanks 1Badmerc (Brad)!!!

PS... Justbob, I'll try and drive slower now  :sleepy:

I'm all for speeding but every 35 mph zone I've been in was 35 for a damn good reason, you are lucky all you got was a fine. Then again, I don't know what street it was, could have been an abandoned straightaway street with nothing around it. The street in front of my house is 35, you couldn't pay me to attempt 70 on it, lol.

70 in a 35 is just plain stupid/dangerous but Im sure you realize that now. You made a smarter move in getting some sound advice and the judge probably believed this was an abberation based on your past clean record. Learn your lesson, dont do it again and thanks for the post that may be beneficial to other members.

Thanks guy... It's great to see people still ASSUME the worst about others AND no one READ the incident I posted about it.

You seem angry after just catching a helluva break. You got a ticket for 70 in a 35. You didn't fight it, so the natural assumption would be you were doing 70 in a 35 and got a ticket. Did we miss something?

No I'm not "Angry". Like I said in the first post (in another thread) I was not doing 70mph and on this stretch of road it's IMPOSSIBLE to do at that time of day. Also there were no signs posted, so I thought under Illinois law 50 was the limit and that what I was doing. I was advise against fighting it since the case would be a continuel battle and one way or another the system was going to get some cash for their trouble.

Call it the "pay to play fee". Making a small donation for the court is better than donating THAT, plus your license!

For what its worth, they would have done that for you regardless of having a lawyer.

Didn't want to take that chance. I was raised by city cops (uncles and cousins) so I know what they say is considered LAW. I'm too old for all this DRAMA. NEVER stood in front of a Judge before and now I don't want to do it again.

Way to go Leon! That was the right play my friend. Trust me when I say you were going to have pay something anyway and at least this is not on your driving record!

When you go to court with multiple tickets and you are 20 over then it gets alot more serious. This was not a case of pleading for court supervision and Leon did right by getting a lawyer. Did you see where it got kicked up to Felony Court?

Also -I know Leon very well and if you told me he was doing 70mph in a 35 zone I will tell you you are nutz! I cant tell you how many times we had to wait for Leon to catch up as he drives like a grandma and I have never seen him drive 70 even on the highway-no offense Leon. This was just a case of someone getting harrassed by an officer that must have been having a bad day.

Congrats Leon!

Correction my DTR now has 3170 miles now. I'm putting miles on her! So Brad, now I know why I'm continuelly put in the middle of our convoys, so I won't get left behind.
