That's a no brainer...

Get them coated...or suffer with a rusted look for the life time of the car (Con's)...

They run cooler (Pro's)

Aloha

If they are stainless I would leave them uncoated. The coating looks like crap later, the stainless won't.

What he said! :agree:

I can't stand that ugly coppery purplish look of headers! :puke:

That's why I got mine done.

Stainless, I would leave it alone unless you have a full blown show car

Aside from looks, does coating reduce heat issues that would eliminate any long term issues without it ??

The coating will reduce under hood temperatures somewhat, and I've also read that keeping the heat inside the header pipes helps with flow, though I admit I don't fully understand the physics of fluid dynamics. I had both the Kooks headers on my Marauder and the Stainless Works headers on my Town Car Jet-Hot coated. Mostly for looks, I admit. They really look sharp.

MY KOOKS headers were jet hot coated for less than $200.00!

And that was through KOOKS!

Where did you get $400.00 from???

Agree. Let the heat get out the engine as soon as it can. That was the advice of a Mustang multi National Champ.

Glad to hear you are now in receipt of the Kooks. Some good things take a lot of effort and patience.;)

Donald coat them with toilet paper. You never start it and they will look good when I buy it.

The difference if it even made one would be negligible. Stainless does an excellent job of getting the heat out of there.

These are two very conflicting statements. Can someone clarify. Will the coating eventually look worse that the stainless steel?

Wow this thread is full of more BS than I have read in a long time,
get the headers coated, Stainless steel will rust &/or become corroded,
it just takes a lot longer mild steel, what makes it rust & corrode? oxygen & moisture, its excelerated with heat, (does anyone understand how a cutting torch works?) a properly coated header (with Jet hot or Cerama chrome) (inside & out) will look far better than an uncoated header for years & will most likely last years longer.
you dont need to check the temp under the hood, the un coated headers
kick out a ton more heat under the hood (I dont understand how this is advantageous)
you want the heat going down & out away from the engine & engine compartment. not only will it look better it will last longer & do its job better.

Right about that. If it is so critical to coat then why not coat the entire exhaust system?

After 50K miles, more dirt than rust;

If you like Bling, have the entire under hood jet coated.

You want the heat getting away from the ENGINE! Headers have a lot of surface area and are very good at extracting heat, this adds to how they work. Coat them and you are limiting the heat extraction to a much, much smaller area. Suit your self.

Garage Queen Coat. Racer don't.

I have 210,000+ miles on my un-coated Kooks Headers. Although not exactly new, they still look good. When I bought them, I called Kooks and asked about coating. Papa Kook (can't remeber his name) said,"I sell good stainless steel headers. Why would you want to coat them?" That was good enough for me.

Good decision. Stainless headers will outlast the car even when uncoated, mild steel on the other hand should be coated if the car is a DD.
