Have any of you recently (within lets say the last year or so) went to the inspection station to get your car(s) inspected? If so, do you know if they are still checking for tint or any other visuals, or is it now just emissions? Thanks

Thanks. Here in central jersey we have a few townships that will get you as well, but mine and those townships surrounding mine don't really care, except Highland Park.

When I moved into Lawrence Twp. I was stoped for mufflers too loud, front license plate bent(my beagle did it:) ) tail light too dark. I told one Officer he was upset becasue my car was faster then his:) Kinda broke the ice and he laughed it off:up:

Wow they must really not have much else to do there, either that or it must be a quiet place that doesn't leave them much else to pull people over for.

Lawrence Twp is between Princeton & Trenton. So the Police take no crap.

They check emissions and see if there has been recent check engine readings, at the Paramus Inspection station...They didnt bother me with my tints at all....

Even though they only do emissions now, they take just as long as before.

If it helps....
I just got my 1972 Olds Cutlass Supreme to pass inspection at a local shop here in Old Bridge. It has holes in the sides, the front end is shaky, it's 3 different colors.... it's a bit of a wreck. Emissions only. That was no easy task.
I asked my cop neighbor how people get away with front tint in NJ. His answer was basically what we've seen here already.....it depends on the town, the cop and their mood. In other words, a total crap-shoot.
Good luck!

I live in Bergen County. There are so few of our cars, that I carry the Specialty Vehicle Certificate from Ford in the car. When a police officer mentions the louder exhaust, I tell a little lie. I show the certificate and say that the factory exhaust on this car was loud to begin with. Now about tints...I know they will not allow anything beyond a light shadow. Limo dark is out.

Thanks for the post guys. Took the marauder through the other day and it passed with flying colors w/ the tint on. Just sold my 1996 buickriviera to my girlfriend because i was bored with it, and went out and got a 2002 black ford f150 harley davidson with the supercharger to be a stablemate with the marauder. Always wanted a truck. Will have pictures in my photobuck soon of the two.

NJ tint laws are-no tint on the windshield, no tint on the driver and passenger front windows and no rules about windows farther back as long as you have 2 exterior mirrors.

Taking my 94 TBird LX for inspection tomorrow here in Jersey.

If she fails, she goes.

Got my 151,000 miles and 17 years out of her, but I will still be sad to see her go.

Michigan is the same with regaurds to the tint law, no tint on the front windshield, or the front two windows, the back doors, and rear windshield can be tinted.

I went tire kicking at my local Ford dealer yesterday looking for a used Explorer/Mountaineer to (most likely) replace my 94 Bird.

Dealer had a Lexus coupe on the lot. I could not see the dashboard from right outside the car because of the darkness of the tint.

Who would have thunk it? Passed inspection.

Got a little bit of a look from the inspector because the driver's window doesn't work, but she seemed satisfied when I showed her the passenger side did.

I noticed that, since it's now considered an old car, they popped the hood and ran the engine at high RPMs for about 30 seconds to check emissions.
