I was just curious - why did Ford use two different types of OEM Marauder air filters?
One filter is made in Mexico and the other is from Germany. I am not sure if there are other Ford/Motorcraft variants but there's a difference between these 2:

The German filter is very rigid (non-flexible) while you can see the Mexican air filter is already flexing in that photo.

I see they are both Mann filters. Apprantly they both meet FMC standards. IMO the vendor ( Mann ) was probably able to produce them cheaper in Mexico.

The German version is just plain faster. It is simple as that.

And...I guess you don't have to oil the Mexican version...

Looks like the German made one has the most recent production date?

The Mexican air filter is in Russ's supercharged 99 CVPI. I guess he bought it sometime late 2002/early 2003.
The German air filter is in my Production Marauder airbox. I just need to find some time to retrofit the airbox assembly (solder the new WPT-102 harness, etc...) and get a dynotune for the air transfer function. I bought it just recently...
I was hoping some of the actual Marauder owners would chime in with what air filters they have, what MY marauder they had, and just curious as to why the German filter has that weird metal mesh... to me its just another restriction.
But did Ford think the air filter flex would cause problems?

Schneller - is the word you are looking for.
C 29 130 is the Mann Filter part#. I checked their german website. You can actually search all their products by the filter size as well. I'll play with that tonight. Just curious if they make that size filter for another mfr.
Wouldn't surprise me if they changed production facilities to meet stricter quality demands by Ford. The last two filters I purchased were the "yellow" in Germany produced type.

Oh...So you have never seen the "mad dash" at the San Diego border?

Judging by your avatar, you should concern yourself with reductions in other areas. Your reputation is out of our reach for most of us anyway. Speaking for myself, I have a bad back. You'll have to help yourself.
I was hoping some of the actual Marauder owners would chime in with what air filters they have, what MY marauder they had.
Well then, why not ask that? Nonetheless, you did get an answer to the question you did ask, right?

My filter "hecho en Mexico." Took delivery in first week in September '02 (I don't know how to tell when the car was assembled). Have the proper K&N now.
