Has anyone dealt with Monster Transmissions before. I was playing around the yesterday, hit 3rd gear and my transmission went south. Trans fluid everywhere and a horrible vibration when moving. Whining very loudly also. Lantec wants $1400 more for their trans and I don't have the coin.

Are you looking for a whole transmission or have yours rebuilt?

Did you check the tailshaft yet or see if the tailshaft seal is sitting on the driveshaft?
Report back when you so this.

Cheeseheadbob and DOOM both had their transmissions rebuilt by Muscle Car Garage in Joppa, MD.

I didn't have them do mine. I went where Sherman went. It's a race trans place in lorton va. I'll post the address later when I get a chance.

Sorry to hear about your trans bro. :(

That's a bad one, that's exactly how my bc automotive went south.
Make it better and don't look back. I'm still trying to blow my stocker up but it just won't happen.

Vibration and fluid all over the place sounds like tailshaft problems. Maybe it was fractured on the dyno recently and the drive to Hershey did further damage.
Hope it gets worked out.

If it ends up being the tailshaft you might as well do the forced tail shaft mod while you're fixing things. I believe Reinhart sells the kit and Alan @ dirtydogperformance.com sells it as well.

Does that mod cause any seepage?

I don't see why it would but it could just as the stock one could seep as well. I know mine seeped for a good while but had the seals replaced. I know Reinhart talked about it before, seeing as the only time fluid gets back there really is under a hard launch (splash back effect). With limited fluid moving through the tail shaft it can cause heat to build up. All the mod is really is just tapping a line into the tail shaft housing and then another line is tapped at the pan or at the transmission somewhere.

Paul, I never got the chance to give you your polishing schmutz and lens restorer back. It's on the shelf till I can get it back to you. Thank You again for letting me use it.

I got under her this morning and it's leaking around the tail shaft seal. I can't do work under the car because of my shoulder, so it's going to the garage Tues and I'm taking the drive shaft to have it re-balanced and the u-joints replaced. I told the garage to take the tail shaft off and check the bronze bushing inside. This sucks not being able to do some of my own work.

At least it's looking like it's just the tail shaft and not the whole transmission.

Anytime besides all my aluminum is polished and my headlights are clear, so hang onto those items. You have to ready for Carlisle 2012. ;)

If its just a tailshaft then you got off cheap. You probably lost 3rd gear due to low fluid.

Thank You everyone for the words of encouragement. I have my fingers and toes crossed hoping for just the tail shaft being hurt. I already told Monica we will be in Michigan in Sept of 2012. WooHoo

FWIW: I've had awfully good luck with Art Carr in Abilene. They have it set up so you can FedEx your transmission to them on a Monday, they'll get it at the Abilene airport Tuesday morning (they are right next to the airport), rebuild it and FedEx it back to you Thursday so you have it Friday to go back in the car. Keeps the down-time to a minimum. Ask for Alan Hartmann (VP and son of -->) or Ronnie Hartmann (President) and mention that you heard it from me. They'll treat you right, and have a lot of alternatives in the rebuild (you know, forged this and Kevlar that, etc.).

Thank You for the info. Do they build it back to stock or can upgrades be added?

Sorry to hear about the misfortune Marty....if you need a hand, let me know. I know enough to be dangerous! Dropping an automatic on the ground is no easy task without a lift, but it looks like it's just the tail shaft housing. Good luck and keep us informed.

Just to answer the question about Monster....
If they are the same Monster that makes torque converters, I can tell you that their torque converters are junk. I had one fail and spew debris all through my transmission.
