The Central Hotel And Conference Center was so impressed with our group during MV 9 that the rooms Manager has offered us group rates for Carlisle in June. He will set aside a block of rooms for us at these rates:

Standard Room = $99.95

Suites = $110

Please post up your interest and indicate your room preference including type of bed ( King or 2 Queens ) and complete the poll on the home page. Thanks!

Not a bad idea? It is only 25 miles to Carlisle from the hotel.

We know the Hotel is a good place and there are places to eat around it.

Mr. Man and I know a "back" way to the fairgrounds that might cut some miles off the trip.

Think that I will stick with the convenience of the Hampton Inn & Suites in Carlisle. 27 miles and 35 minutes will be nearly 45-60 minutes in Harrisburg rush traffic going to and from the Fairgrounds. :o

Mr. Man

Route from Harrisburg uses exit 57 off I-81 S instead of exit 52. Not sure if it cuts any mileage off the trip but it does use some back county roads that are twisty and hilly. We would enter the show grounds via the lollipop.

We ran into very little traffic last year until we were at the grounds entrance so traffic wasn't a real problem, not saying it couldn't be but last year it wasn't. The previous year we sat in traffic for almost an hour trying to get to the show field when we left the Hampton Inn. We even used Calvary Rd but it took forever to get to the lollipop.

We figure we will save about $100 or so by staying in Harrisburg over the two nights.:)

Agreed, I like my 10-15 minute ride back to my hotel, a hour drive in traffic in the morning and the afternoon will be unbearable.

While it will take longer than 15 minutes to get to the hotel, it is a weekend. Justin actually lives in Carlisle and drives it daily. He said it is not a bad commute. That said, it won't appeal to everyone.;)

Its a major car show weekend. That equals traffic, and it takes no more then 15 minutes to the hotel Carlisle from the fairgrounds.

Well, with a 1/3 saving on price we would be interested. Too far out yet to committ.

We sat in traffic waiting to just get under the Turnpike bridge for at least 20 minutes two years ago. Like Ms. D said it's not for everyone. Me personally I'm going to save some $$$$.

Looks like it adds 2 miles to the trip and puts you on 30-45 MPH roads longer adding to your travel time. Not sure how this will help you avoid traffic on Route 11 or into the Fairgrounds.

If you are planning to bring both the Black and the Silver MM, you'll put about $40-50 of that savings back into the gas tank. This is basically the same discussion that we had last year about the savings of staying in Maugansville. Its a time, money, and gas discussion.

There are many reasons to stay at the BW Premiere Central hotel 'cause it was a real nice hotel. But justifying staying there from a $$$$ and time perspective doesn't make sense. JMHO.

Baloney! :P The whole point is that we WON'T be on that jam packed Rte 11 at all. We will avoid all Carlisle gridlock and be swigging Skull Splitters in the Pub while you lot sit in the parking lot aka Rte 11.....:D

Look guys, of course feel free to stay anywhere you like. We don't like the Carlisle Hotel, the Hampton is fine except for Rte. 11 traffic and the price. Eric and I are willing to try another option and see how it goes. We liked the Central Hotel and when Justin offered a better deal than we've ever gotten in Carlisle it seems worth trying. Not twisting any arms here. Just offering another option. I'll ask for maybe 10 rooms and first come first served. If it's only us and Derek that's OK too. I bet I can get him to throw me the keys to his SC Blue again! Just my 2 cents.

New to the site, what is Carlisle?
It is a town in PA with a huge fairgrounds where huge car shows are held throughout the year. All Ford Nationals is held over 3 days every June. MM.net members enter their Marauders as a class. Blackened300a organizes the meet and we have a great turnout and a great time. This thread is about a hotel we just stayed in for Marauderville. It is located in Harrisburg which is about 25 miles from Carlisle. We have been offered hotel rates which are significantly less than the places we've stayed in Carlisle. We're also hoping to avoid some of the traffic issues we experience on the main drag through Carlisle to the fairgrounds, Rte 11. Our theory is that while it may be more miles, we will be moving vs. sitting in traffic. Plus it is a nice, newly renovated hotel and the Rooms Manager has become friend.

Our annual dinner is in Carlisle, so 25 miles back to the hotel, then trek back to Carlisle, then back to the hotel, then do it all over again on Sunday is not worth any amount of savings.

I'm strongly considering attending Carlisle next year and would like to weigh options for lodging. I liked the MV9 hotel, too, and wouldn't mind staying there again; especially if the price was right.

The Hampton runs approx $150 a night with full breakfast. It is a very nice hotel. I am looking at $200 for two nights, or $300 for two nights. On a fixed income it makes a difference. I do hate to see the group split up though.

I'm with you, in my current economic situation, I could use that extra $100 for food and entertainment.
Having no "modding money" makes me a sad, cheap SOB.....:(

Aren't we all . I have holes in my jean's because I can't afford new ones. :depress:

Anyway, as far as the "squabbling & getting out of hand", remember folks, you might not be reading the words on your screen with the "tone" the author intends.

Besides, "newbies" who plan on attending should know all their options and since this is the FIRST Carlisle thread that's being thrown out there, it's good to put out all the info so everyone can weigh their options ya know. In the end, everyone is going to do what's best for them and their situation.

Actually I have been to & thru Carlisle many times. When I drove OTR we had a pick up yard in Mechanicsburg. I am quite used to the parking lot roads but from the perspective of an 18 wheeled rig w/53' trailer. I would love to attend & see the area again, not sure if I can though. I am going to attend MVX and am not sure if I could take time off for Carlisle also. We'll see as it gets closer... :shake:

Carlisle is in early June. Although it's a 3 day event, the biggest turnout is Sat. and we also do a big Marauders at Carlisle BBQ and car show at our club tent. Try to join us! Otherwise we will see you in Sept.

If you have any questions about Carlisle you're welcome to contact me or I'm sure Blackened 300a will be more than happy to answer questions. He is the organizer of MAC (Marauders at Carlisle).

I always stay at the Comfort Suites in downtown Carlisle.
The Comfort Suites is on Hanover Street. It is 0.9 miles from the show field entrance. They have a covered parking garage. While I really loved the Central Hotel, a 2 minute ride from the hotel to the show field makes a sound argument for spending more for the room.

Based on the feedback so far, seems there are 4-5 who are ready to reserve their rooms at The Central Hotel for Carlisle in June, and 4-5 more who are interested at this point. I spoke with Justin and he will honor our MV9 rate of $95/nite for a standard King or double Queen! I will sign the contract for a block of 14 rooms as soon as he gets it back to me. I know a few of you have been asking how soon. I hope to have it in place by the end of the week and I'll post a new thread as soon as reservations are open. Stay tuned.....
