Jet-Hot and ceramic are high temp coating that keep the heat in the exhaust system a little longer. Non coated will release more heat into the engine compartment and cool the exhaust gases sooner.

OK but were they purchased like that or were they done after. Also what are the gains of these headers? i know mods may bring different results but for my stock motor, tune and exhaust what can i expect

I know Ford makes them in coated or non-coated and you can have them coated. Gains? N/A, maybe a couple ponies. They only show their true worth when using power adders. Then you can expect 15hp on up depending on the rest of the setup.

I bought mine pre-coated.

so this would be a pointless mod?

All depends on your future plans.

Rex has them on his Eatonized MM. Hopefully he'll chime in soon. Mine are in the garage :-(

Have them as well ceramic coated from FRPP. But they are no longer available unless used. I figure only couple rwhp 8-10? for me it was the only option as I need my cats in Cali. IMO if you can do LT then stainless works and kooks all the way.

You can do JBA shorty headers which are CARB approved. Link: http://www.mercurymarauder.net/forums/showthread.php?t=58536&highlight=shorty+headers

I had mine installed a couple months after my Eaton swap, along with high flow cats and a Mac Pro-Chamber mid-pipe.

I had Mo's Speed Shop dyno it before and after the installation. I picked up 27 hp and 38 ft lb of rwtrq over baseline by opening up the exhaust.

Still running through the OEM mufflers with res-delete cats, so the exhaust is still quiet, which is what I was looking for.

Yeah, I was very pleased with the results.

Thanks, that's one of the benefits of living in the South, pretty easy to keep the car clean even a DD.

LT headers will net you the most gain for NA and if you go FI down the road. Some people go with the shorties just to open up the exhaust some. Opening up the exhaust when boosted in any positive manner will help increase power. Being NA eh.. it will help some but that's where you think about your long term plans on goals. I had the chance to do LT headers but keep most of my stock exhaust piping OR replace every piece of stock piping besides the exhaust manifolds for cheaper. I opted for the piping replacement. I ran with 2nd set of cats deleted, bigger mid-pipe, and high-flow mufflers for a long time.

I too have the ceramic coated shorty headers and although I did it a long time ago the thing I remember immediately after install was the seat of the pants push of power with just that one mod........I believe it was done before I had my S/C'er installed --thats why I remember that effect the most-----gains--who knows---but it was several for sure---the fact it opens up your exhaust with less restrictions is most helpful..
